Do I think not blaming people for committing crimes is the same thing as encouraging people to commit crimes? ("100% equivalent" is what he wrote) No, obviously not.

There is a conceptual, linguistic, and practical *gulf* between “don’t blame voters” and “telling…voters…you SHOULD vote [for trump].”

No honest person believes they are the same thing. Come on.

It’s not equivalent. You know it’s not equivalent. And you’ve now tried to redefine blame and encourage to conceal how badly you misrepresented his point the first time.

Be honest please.

Oliver said BLAMING voters for voting badly is a bad idea, and you claim he is proposing to ENCOURAGE voters to vote badly.

That’s just dishonest framing.

This is absolutely dead wrong. There was no bailout. Nothing about SVB was exceptional aside from wealthy dipshits lying about it on social media (out of ignorance or malevolence or both).

Crucially, when the bank fails, the money doesn’t go anywhere (it’s still there in the investments!) and the FDIC doesn’t replace it with a bailout (most of the time). The bank just had a cash flow problem and the FDIC ensures that someone else with more cash on hand steps in to bridge the gap.

Certain things can make banks more susceptible to bank runs. Taking longer investments. Having depositors overrepresented in an economic sector. Having a higher amount of deposits per depositor. Etc.

Banks invest deposits. If depositors ask for their money faster than the bank can retrieve it from their investments, the bank fails. FDIC, among other things, can guarantee the deposits until another bank, with liquid assets, takes over the deposits and the investments. That’s what happened.

You need to come to terms with the genocide. It’s embarrassing for a smart guy to be casting about like he’s blind when it’s obvious he can see. This not a debate. There is no whodunnit.
