Was ist verkehrt an einem verplichtenden Gesellschaftsjahr? Es könnte so viele Fliegen mit einer Klappe schlagen. Ein bisschen mehr an einem Strang ziehen, kann uns in Deutschland sicher nicht schaden.

Human impacts on large mammals went well beyond triggering late Quaternary mass extinctions. A new paper by Brook et al. showing that biogeographic patterns were erased by the spread of domesticated species:

A related paper is in press. Stay tuned.

We (me, @barankarapunar.bsky.social, @sinjinis.bsky.social and @harriedrage.bsky.social) organized a symposium for the next IPC (Cape Town 2026!) on evolution, diversity and ecology in marine ecosystems throughout the Phanerozoic.
Contact us if you would like to participate or to know more about it!
Symposia 🔍

Among our 29 themed symposia + 1 open symposium, we are pleased to feature:

✨ Life in the Phanerozoic Oceans: Evolution, diversity and ecology in deep time marine ecosystems✨

I haven't used "Academia .edu" for 15 yrs (only tried it when it 1st came out) but they just tried charge me ~$400 automatic on a card w/o any notification or me agreeing to renew/reactivate anything. This is such a predatory scam & they really shouldn't be allowed an ".edu" too Watch out for them

If you know anyone interested in starting a Master's project working on ammonoid phylogenetics (or the phylogenetics of a mollusc group spanning the OAE2 event in the Late Cretaceous), then ask them to get in touch with me.

The situation is a little tricky, as it would be funded by the remainder…

A still very worthwhile read. Charles Lyell made it possible that both these great thinkers appeared in the same issue of the journal.
#OnThisDay in 1858, a seminal journal article comprised of papers by Alfred Russel Wallace FRS and Charles Darwin FRS on the theory of evolution by natural selection was published by the Linnean Society, the first public announcement of the theory of evolution. bit.ly/3k8fq4u
