Nephrology NP in North Carolina. Passionate about patient education. Enamored with the complement system.
I have the audacity to tell neurosurgeons to schedule their surgeries around my patients’ dialysis. Do you honestly think I’m gonna let these POS, wannabe Rambo MFers try to take them? Bitch please.

Was explaining the role of SGLT2i in slowing kidney disease progression to a patient today. Explained that it’s likely a class effect but don’t have kidney data for all the meds, bc some weren’t powered for that.
Son: “I have a PhD in stats”
Me: “let me tell you about these p values!!” #nephnerd

I had a statistically rare day and I need some science lovers to appreciate it with me:
Today I saw not one but TWO people that have a condition with an incidence of 1-3 per million. I’ve been in nephrology for 9 years and have seen 5 cases. This is the second time it’s been two in one day. 🤓

For the love of polypharmacy…. If you are going to make BP med adjustments based on home BP readings, PLEASE make sure your patients know how and WHEN to take them correctly!

Found out this week that my first solo article has made it through peer review and was accepted for publication WITHOUT REVISIONS! So stoked!

If you are an NC resident and voted in November, please check if your name or the names of any family areone of the 60K votes being challenged. If so, confirm ASAP with your Board of Elections. You only have two weeks.

The website to check linked in the reply.

NC Court of Appeals gives over 60,000 challenged voters 15 days to prove eligibility
The majority wrote that, even though they have the authority to completely throw out the contested ballots, they decided to instead mandate a cure period for most of the challenged voters.

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

When working on my doctorate, my research focused on bioterrorism preparedness. Turns out, I needed to be less concerned about weaponized smallpox and more concerned about a Putin-loving felon and his cronies ushering in the return of TB, measles, diphtheria, and polio. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #publichealth

For many Americans with kidney disease, Medicaid is the difference between getting care or going without. Every cut to Medicaid puts lives at risk. We must strengthen, not weaken, this essential program.

The country is a dumpster fire right now so here’s a weird question for #MedSky.
I live in a townhouse and can hear my neighbor snore through our shared wall. The insulation is fine- it’s just that loud. How weird would it be to ask him if he’s ever been checked for OSA next time I run into him?

Did you know that if a child with #measles walks into a classroom, every unvaccinated child will most certainly get it? Why are measles cases increasing worldwide? And is the measles vaccine safe and effective? Dr Natasha Crowcroft explains on Science in 5. Watch full EP: bit.ly/40RQqoC

Kansas tuberculosis outbreak is now America's largest in recorded history
Kansas public health officials say the state's ongoing tuberculosis outbreak is the largest since the CDC started reporting TB cases in the 1950s.

Friendly reminder that patient demographic data, medical records, and access to patient treatment areas are protected under HIPAA and do NOT have to be provided without a warrant signed by a *judge*.

If one does all their academic/professional writing between the hours of 8pm and 1 am, does that make them a professional night owl, or a night owl professional? 🦉😂 #nephronerd

So… are we going to talk about how basically everyone in this country saw the news about the UHC CEO, shrugged and said “I get it.” ? Why are we so hell-bent on keeping this #brokensystem ?
