Someone help me with this. Two posts; 10 minutes apart. Seemingly contradictory assertions.

You might ask why I've been so relentlessly negative about the Trump tariffs. It’s not personal—unless you count my deep, personal hatred of bad economics, incoherent policy, and self-inflicted economic wounds which also undermine our foreign policy goals.

“The first one to speak in a negotiation loses.” Classic negotiation adage. Surprised that the author of The Art of the Deal doesn’t seem to be aware of this. He has tipped his hand, given up his (our) power, and our leadership position in the world economically, strategically, and politically.

Wouldn’t you think that Musk, who built a highly successful electric car business, who runs SpaceX, and who is actively growing his AI platform, would be able to oversee the implementation of a secure on-line system to allow the SSA to continue operating in the interests of its recipients?

SSA is in complete chaos. Buried in this article is a service worker noting that "the phone never stops ringing" and **retirement claims aren't being processed**. Hard to overstate the significance of that. End goal is to privatize the agency. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
DOGE is driving Social Security cuts and will make mistakes, acting head says privately
The Social Security Administration’s acting commissioner said members of Elon Musk’s cost-cutting team are outsiders who are unfamiliar with the nuances of the agency’s programs.

Let’s call it what it was… Trump failed at his negotiation with Zelensky and he doesn’t like not succeeding in a negotiation. No one does but here’s the other thing…don’t negotiate in public.

One thing I'd add to that segment: we tracked GOP town halls all over the country last week. We counted only 8! So 95% of GOP members are hiding from their constituents. If we're going to pressure them publicly, local groups are going to have to get creative.

Stay tuned for more on that front soon!
Hey folks! I'm joining @maddow.msnbc.com in a few minutes to talk about the impact of all those town halls last week and what comes next. Please tune in!

No green room pic tonight because I'm solo on the kids today, so they kindly let me take it from home!

Sarah Longwell and I discuss the awful speech by JD Vance in Munich—a humiliation for the U.S., and a confirmation that this administration isn't on the side of the democracies.

And a coda on the contrasting admirable behavior by several attorneys at DOJ & SDNY.

Wow.
Top tip. Don’t have insomnia in the middle of a coup.

An executive order has now given DOGE oversight of all government departments.

It’s a complete takeover of the federal government by Musk. A Musk ‘team lead’ will now make all hiring decisions according to a ‘data-driven’ model

JD Vance - If you believe any of the multiple federal courts that have ruled against you so far are exceeding their statutory or Constitutional authority, your recourse is to appeal. You don’t get to rage-quit the Republic just because you are losing. That’s tyranny.
