Male veterans are encountering obstacles in getting treatment for breast cancer in the VA system because of Trump's executive order meant to oppress trans people. I say that again: non-trans men are struggling to get treatment for breast cancer due to transphobia.

Citing Trump Order on “Biological Truth,” VA Makes It Harder for Male Veterans With Breast Cancer to Get Coverage
A Department of Veterans Affairs memo obtained by ProPublica erects new roadblocks to care for veterans with the rare but deadly cancer. The agency cites no new science but relies on an executive orde...

“We can give $20 billion to Argentina but we can’t afford the CDC’s measles experts” is a hell of an argument

The average American has no understanding of the devastation and long term consequences of these decisions. America is completely unprepared for an outbreak due to this administration.
RIFed:

Several CDC staff currently working on an Ebola outbreak overseas.

You know — the ones literally helping contain and prevent it from spreading. (Like, to the U.S.)

Trust us: dying from Ebola is a MISERABLE way to die.

"The U.S. government has spent tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars since the start of April on idled health workers."

The Trump admin’s waste, fraud, and abuse are staggering--not just in dollars, but in the lost talent and expertise of the very scientists who keep America safe.

Judging by the shamefully opportunistic & politicizing rhetoric of some rightwingers on Twitter, & their cynical use of Charlie Kirk’s horrific murder for political point scoring, it’s almost as if Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman wasn’t murdered by a Trump-voting MAGA maniac just 12 weeks ago.

As the meeting began
the convener apologized
about lunch running late
but explained it by noting
“they’ve been slower
ever since the pandemic,”
and in response
someone joked:
“ever since the pandemic
we’ve all been slower”
and instead of laughing
several people just nodded.

Fits directly into Vought's playbook:

1️⃣ Create chaos 6 weeks before the fiscal year closes.

2️⃣ Detract from awarding new $ by consuming staff with "urgent" massive reviews.

3️⃣ The unspent $ is then used as justification for illegal "pocket rescissions".

Apologies, my friend,
I know that these
are dark and difficult times
but you must remember
it is in the moment
when you cannot imagine
how things can get any worse
that you must prepare yourself
for things to get worse
for things to get much worse.

The headline asked
“Why
are more than 300 people
in the US
still dying from Covid
every week?”
but no one wants to hear it
should you answer with
“because the pandemic
never ended,”
and that (alas)
is another reason why
so many people
are still dying from Covid
every week.

I think there are lot of well-meaning non-trans people who think gender-affirming care is a luxury or aspirational thing, like dental veneers or nose jobs. "Sure, it'd be nice if trans folks had this care but they don't need it, do they?"

Yes. It's literally lifesaving. It's suicide prevention.

My aunt, the doctor,
told me a new joke.
She asked:

What happens
when your country shuts down
the Centers for Disease Control’s
infection control committee?

I said I did not know,
so she added.

Your country becomes
the center for diseases.

And then neither of us laughed.

For those who don’t know: federal civil servants take an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

It’s a duty — not to any one person or party, but to the people and the rule of law.

There are times
when I worry
that I am running out
of ways to say
that we must take care
of each other.

But most of the time
I am just worried
that we are running out
of time in which
to start taking care
of each other.

And so
I will just keep saying:
take care
of each other.

that we
would get better,

I truly fear
this will never end
and that we
are getting worse,
as human beings
we are getting worse.

Paywalls
At a time when ignorance is running rampant inside our electorate, few things concern me more than the elite mainstream media thinking that putting important stories, especially those that make the current threats to our democracy clear, behind paywalls is a good idea. (1/3)
