It is fundamental for schools to manage their use of AI in a safe, timely and evidence-informed manner. For this they need to be fully supported by the Government.

Across all schools, we found that AI tools were most widely used by teachers for lesson planning and prep (44%).

The largest differences are between state and private schools in training, AI strategies and having a member of staff responsible for overseeing AI in the school.

Apprenticeships in England are short and off-the-job training requirements are loose, complex and widely ignored. In 2023 around 300,000 apprentices received less than their training entitlement. Meanwhile drop out rates are high.

A fascinating question but the dichotomy of priority for teacher's children vs places for disadvantaged families (as discussed) is false. It can be both. Hopefully schools will also make other changes to admissions policies to bring greater fairness to the system.
