Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms.

3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers.

4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against.

It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power.

Story to come.

Fire code and safe streets are coming to Oakland
City will consider amendments
Fire code may require wide streets near tall unsprinklered buildings.

I’m pretty confident Oakland’s Lakeshore cycletrack wouldn’t be under construction now if it wasn’t for the bike/walk commission. That group served as a space for Maia’s grieving family members to come share their stories & ask for help.

Upper Park Blvd also has expensive settlements, and is also scheduled for repaving in 2028.
And each of these settlements large is a result of a death or severe injury

If you are involved in transportation advocacy but don’t have much experience yet, I recommend not taking anything a traffic engineer says at face value. Fact check every excuse & keep all receipts. Come to meetings prepared w supporting data/info.

I know these “interviews” with Justice Barrett are carefully scripted. But if she’s going to keeping urging Americans to “read the opinions,” and not just commentary, it sure would be nice if someone would ask her what we should do when—as is so often the case these days—there’s no opinion to read…
