Helpppp! We’re low on paper towels AND wet kitten food & our smallest residents would be very grateful for any items you can send.

Kitten season is officially in full swing & with so many little ones to feed & clean up after, we’re running through supplies much faster than usual! 🧵

Once again, it is time to level curses at the hoarders of wealth, the architects of brutality, and the stealers of dreams...

When I wrote in a novel, some years ago, ‘We live in the light that comes to us’ that carried within it, for me, the idea that sometimes there is very little, sometimes there is mostly darkness.

It is still our time, we do what we can.

PSA for cat owners in the US: cats have been contracting H5N1 (bird flu). They are very susceptible to it and the fatality rate for cats is 67%. To avoid it:

-keep your cats indoors. They can catch it from infected birds and mice.

-do not feed them raw dairy

-do not feed them raw meat

just blurted out in class "yes, you have to cite where you got your info. in a world in which lying loudly is the only thing that seems to get rewarded, citing your sources is an act of resistance" and folks, I really believe that.

Anyone in Maryland or Delaware (or Philly if you don’t mind a little drive) want to take in this beautiful baby? I would but we’re full up.
I have a big ask from our local partner shelter. Beautiful, sweet blind cat Helen has had three approved adopters, but when the time comes to take her home, none of them have showed up. Can we find Helen a loving home at last? She’s been there since she was a baby! www.petfinder.com/cat/helen-71...

More to say on burnout and I'm probably going to boost it a few times because folks need to hear it:

Burnout is a form of brain damage. It happens when stress conditions persist until they damage our brains.

It's an injury that needs to heal, not a weakness that needs to be pushed through.
Man burnout can mess you up for a very long time.

And it can sneak up on you: things can seem stressful but mostly manageable until suddenly they're not manageable.

Self care and vacation are great, but they're guardrails: they don't help when you've already fallen in.

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Sicillian: I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the half-full cup in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it so I can clearly not choose the half-empty cup in front of me

This makes me think of The Star tarot card. In the Smith-Waite version, the figure finds inspiration from the stars but she’s still doing something, pouring into herself and others.
Hope is an embodied practice. We often take hope for granted. Hope needs to be held onto, cultivated and sustained.

Good night.

Me, right now.
My word of the day (and personal recommendation) is ‘snerdling’ (18th century): nestling cosily beneath the covers and holding off the day a little longer.

Morning.
