Unions are explicitly political but they’ve been depolarized since Reagan. They’re organized groups that are up for grabs, not a loyalist bloc.

Safety aside, I don’t see how it’s controversial for anyone, never mind a public figure, to directly respond to things said about them online. The point of this machine is that it goes both ways.
