YEP YEP YEP. Even the non-Bath events completely ignore the critical work many have done to include critique and documentation of the horrors of empire. It feels like some folks were more than ready to throw out the critical work people were working so hard on in order to get a speaker’s fee.

It is very clear and there is a strategic backlash against our work and against others' and also against Edward Said who while, like all of us, not perfect, was absolutely right about Austen, culture and empire! Now, Austen is apparently a radical revolutionary lol. $$$ to be made there...

The really disturbing thing is that the mainstream celebrations of Austen in Bath etc are very white and whiteness dominated, celebrating an imperial world with little critique!

The number of white progressives and liberals stumbling over themselves and crying is pathetic. We see you. And we know you won’t lift a finger to protect the same marginalized ppl you grift off of. HATE IS NOT A POLITICAL OPINION. The fact that this has to be said is unconscionable
