Three good things today.

1. Re-reading old favourites.
2. Spring rolls cooked in the air fryer.
3. Air conditioning.

(Time to stop rambling and do this)

1. All tyrants fall, inevitably.
2. Puppies and kittens are still being born.
3. Trees.

I'm starting to think that a lot of evildoing is caused by a desire for shortcuts.
"The end justifies the means" is used as an excuse for a lot of evildoing.
It isn't the evildoing which people are tempted by; they are tempted by the good things they think they will get by doing evil. Things […]

1. My Silkyoak tree is budding.
2. Transforming the cardboard from cereal boxes with alcohol ink while listening to ambient music (another album by deepspace)
3. Cool, clear, water

Can we please discuss accessibility at conferences?

When organizers and schedules assume that everyone can walk fast and climb stairs, people with mobility issues (visible or invisible) might feel excluded.

The album "Water Planets" by deepspace (on Bandcamp https://projektrecords.bandcamp.com/album/water-planets ) is fabulous. A soundscape, a tour through a set of water planets, smooth and spacey, tumbling from relaxing to eerie to cyberpunk. Really good.

But for the love of Einstein, Newton […]

If you read a story or poem and like it, let the author know. For many of us, publishing feels like throwing our souls into the void. Sometimes it seems like no one is reading our work but our editors. Throw us a bone and make our days. #readingcommunity #writingcommunity #bookstodon

Yesterday I told my boss that I'm not going to be applying for any funding to stay in Europe (for multiple reasons. Postdocing has to end eventually, and living on the other side of the planet from my friends, family, and the Australian bush isn't working for me). He said, 'Makes sense you want […]

Five themes I like in fiction:

* Silent faithfulness
* Compassion through suffering
* (Self-)rescue through persistence and cleverness
* Found family
* Hope overcoming despair

What are yours?

Yeah, I've been a bit slack, but I was away.

1. I managed to put the rubbish out while it was still daylight.
2. It was raining while I was doing that, but though I got wet, I didn't get soaked.
3. My silkyoak tree is preparing to bloom.

Death by water is your fate.
If you lay it down
He will pick it up,
Springing anew.
If you scream and fight
With all your puny might
The storm will crush
Your stubborn neck.

Life through death
Or death in life
Your choice.

Ah, some not-fun, at the airport. The security screening, the guy wanted to take my inkless pen, because it was "metal and has a point". I was not ready to be nice, I was tired because I often do not sleep well in hotels, and, yes, I had a crappy night last night, and I had to drag my suitcase […]

Well, rather behind here. I'm currently on holiday in Victor Harbour with my siblings and sibling-in-laws. Yesterday was our first full day here. I went to the beach, jumping against waves. It was fun for a while, but then I lost my footing and BOOM, tumbled and dumped. And every time I tried to […]

So. Family holiday in Adelaide. Seems like similar weather to Melbourne, only slightly warmer.

I should therefore have known that it would decide, next week, to be aggressively Spring rather than Summer. But no, I'd packed and planned for summer weather. But (fortunately?) I looked at the […]

Does anyone know any #emacs package to auto-expand the prg-mode hidden element? I found `org-appear` but it needs to be toggled manually. I'm looking for a way to toggle that automatically if/when the point goes over the region with hidden elements.
