Doing evil is only ever of short-term benefit to the evildoer. It's simply not possible to get away with it forever. Small-time evil is going to get caught, because the longer they get away with it, the more careless they will become.

Heh. Reminds me of what I've often said about politicians who run on a "law and order" platform - that they are far more interested in punishing criminals than they are in preventing crime.

@gracehill.bsky.social Yeah, I was afraid of that. I am very glad that my supermarket decided that it was better to be efficient than to worry constantly about false claims.

@gracehill.bsky.social At least with my grocery delivery, if something like that happened, I wouldn't have to go back, I'd just make a phone call. Though the most common problem I've had to call about has been missing items from my delivery. Other incidents, I've had damaged eggs and leaky milk […]

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that there is a notable cultural difference in this regard between British and US TV/movies - in US works, the Good Guys are guaranteed to win *because* they are Good Guys. In British works, they aren't necessarily going to win.

One of the reasons why I love #blakes7 is because they fought the evil Federation *even though they knew they were not going to win*. Because it was better to try and fail than to never try at all.
