Husky mom and academic in disaster communication. Somewhat public and deployable for natural disasters. What should I read up on?

Opinionated AF, and always learning.
(Sadly learning to avoid dairy. Damn allergies)
These two would like everyone to know that the time change is still BS.

The work day was full of meetings and productivity - an excellent way to spend a Tuesday.

My commutes were filled with entertainment from the mind of @marthawells.com (Emilie & the Sky World. Also in love with Murderbot)

My study time… I’ve basically been a squirrel on meth. #DoctoralStudentLife

Yup. I don't think many people realize that USPS provides service to addresses that every single private carrier in the country will refuse to deliver to. They even service addresses that are only accessible by boat! There's still a mule route!

The void and I have finished homework, and are studiously judging everything else going on in the world.

Do we know what all is going on? No.

Do we judge anyhow. Um, she is a void am I’m her humble servant. We know nothing else.

“This is nice behaviour, that I write to you again and again, and you pay no attention to me.”

This almost 4,000-year-old Babylonian letter in clay is proof that we have been finding ways to say “per my last email” for some time

As someone who talked with 200 people wanting to express their thoughts on an unpopular choice by my agency, the people who call are typically the most passionate.

It really freaks out elected officials to get calls. You can do it. But please don’t abuse the staffers. It’s probably an intern.
I recently reposted a former congressional staffer who said that when an issue got 20-30 calls it would get representatives freaked out and ready to do something. It takes less than you’d think, because so few people actually take that kind of action

PSA for cat owners in the US: cats have been contracting H5N1 (bird flu). They are very susceptible to it and the fatality rate for cats is 67%. To avoid it:

-keep your cats indoors. They can catch it from infected birds and mice.

-do not feed them raw dairy

-do not feed them raw meat

I hope the holidays have been lovely for all! We’ve been worn out by all the hope and joy.

To everyone in a similar scenario: the tactic my doctor's office has taught me is to ask, in writing, for:
1) the name, board specialty, and license number of the doctor making the determination the treatment was not medically necessary;

There is something about Thanksgiving that makes food taste just a little bit different.

For those that celebrate, may you have had a joyful day. For those that don’t, I hope that the next several weeks bring you opportunities for time with family and friends.

Happy Thanksgiving.

This cat loves her huskies. She actively invites them to chew on her head and nibble her belly.

It’s… a thing. As an introvert, I truly do not understand it.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Each year, the trans community loses too many lives, especially trans women of color, to hate and violence.

More than ever, we must stand by our trans family and support them, hold space for them, and insist the scapegoating and targeting stop.

Now.

It’s also important to know that misinformation (wrong information being shared) is different than disinformation (*maliciously shared* incorrect information).
This feels like a useful time for my favorite soapbox: you need to spend some time understanding how to identify and combat propaganda and disinformation. The US is really, really susceptible to this tactic for many reasons, and it's a prime fascist technique.

There is something trancedental about an IKEA trip with your best friend. My step-teen was ranting about it today, and the lack of ability to choose your own needs.

This store, I told her, is about the journey, not the destination. (Yes, it’s also about rampant consumerism)
