I'm not surprised that our state leaders would want to limit the ability of outside lawyer groups to monitor what's happening to incarcerated kids. It must be a bummer to take a break from accusing public schools of grooming kids to evade ?s re: the rampant sexual abuse of kids on your own watch.

TX was going to charge a min. of $225,000 to answer these questions:
👉# of requests for child removals in the past 5 years
👉# of children who subsequently died
👉Names of children who died after request was denied
👉# of removals requested to county district attorneys for the same period

If Texas was ever a lifeline for children at risk, it has shut the door, the windows, the curtains, and turned off the lights. #txlege

So very grateful for dogged reporting that keeps showing up anyway, with a flashlight. @texaspublicradio.bsky.social @paulflahive.bsky.social

What an awful thing to read 😭
Working on this story took a toll on me this week. I'm not new to learning about the many heartbreaking things that our foster kids have to endure, but to learn of a child in so much pain for days being ignored until he finally just died right in front of his peers...just no words. #txlege

A Texan was the first to breach the Capitol and many others joined the assault. The presidential pardon helps cast all of them as folk heroes.

Public policy / social media mind hive: I'm interested in finding social media newsie-types/influencers who would be interested in what's happening in the Texas foster care space.

Cross-interests: children and families (obviously), mental health, human trafficking, the courts, politics, good gov..

It’s time we held abusers accountable.

I just filed HB 179 to eliminate the statute of limitations for survivors of child abuse — ensuring every survivor has a chance to be heard.

The most obvious explanation is the right one: Texas cannot defend the deadly consequences of its own law, so it is suppressing them.

This is intentional, calculated erasure - not a “coincidence”. #txlege

Judge Jack ordered Texas to speed up their investigations into abuse allegations of disabled kids. Instead, TX asked a 5th Circuit panel for permission to keep those kids in danger indefinitely & - as a bonus - to kick Jack off the case. The panel said yes. And yes. #txlege @texasmonthly.bsky.social

One thing I want to find on Bluesky is a sober assessment of what 2024-2028 will look like in terms of the rolling out of Trump's agenda, especially in parallel to what the Texas Legislature #txlege plans to do. And when I say "sober assessment" I don't mean the "darkest vision".
