On Wednesday, Senator Kolkhorst, who oversees the budget and policy changes for the Texas foster care system, said "The only thing we can take to heaven is our children."

The senselessness makes it so hard to swallow. This keeps happening in Texas - one of the wealthiest places on earth. We have a $24 billion surplus but insist these facilities run on a shoestring budget and fund these crucial caregiving jobs at a level that attracts drifters and ne'er-do-wells.

Cable news doesn’t hold the power that it once did, probably for many of the reasons you listed above. Plus market changes. Not sure it has the power to fixing our problems even if it had the will.

An aside - The attorney leading Texas' appeal is Allyson Ho, wife of Fifth Circuit Judge James Ho, who is reportedly on Trump's short list for a SCOTUS seat. 🕸️
Ho did not weigh in on the 2024 reassignment of Judge Jack, but he authored an earlier opinion in the almost 14-year old lawsuit.

Plaintiffs in the lawsuit want the whole court to weigh in, so there's an outside chance that Judge Jack could be reinstated.
