Immigrant renters are being silenced by fear. Landlords exploit ICE threats & HUD’s new "data" demands to deny housing, hike fees & ignore repairs. Understandably, terror keeps tenants from exercising even the most basic of protections. This is wrong!

We must update LARSO and make it more tenant-friendly so LA families aren't forced to choose between paying rent and buying food. Contact the City Council today at acceaction.org/CapTheRentLA and tell them we need a stronger LARSO!

About 70 community members gathered in Watts for a town hall to hear why Councilmember Tim McOsker and the rest of the LA City Council must #CapTheRentAt3 %! We need Councilmember McOsker to take action as so many tenants are struggling with rent hikes that are increasingly unsustainable.

"Documenting harassment related to immigration status is important...But the most important thing tenants can do is organize with their neighbors, instead of trying to fight alone, to have some protection from deportation. This is an opportunity for people who are less vulnerable to support others."

The math on LA rent control doesn’t add up for actual tenants
Los Angeles caps rent increases to protect tenants, but landlords are pocketing most of the extra money as profit while renters still can't afford to stay.

“It’s frustrating that the Council hasn’t taken action. People are struggling to pay between groceries, utilities, rents and making difficult choices that impact them. And our members’ number one concern is being evicted and becoming homeless.”

"Starting Tuesday, rent increases for most apartment dwellers in Los Angeles will be capped at 3% or up to 5% if utilities are included. The new limits are taking effect at a time when the L.A. City Council continues to put off voting on a plan to update the city’s decades-old rent control formula."
New rent increase caps start in LA as city delays updating rent control formula
Most L.A. apartments are covered by the city’s decades-old rent control law. New limits on annual rent hikes take effect July 1 without reforms that have been waiting for a City Council vote.
