There are some moments in the game where sections of the drawing screen are undrawable. I wanted to add better feedback for the player for understanding that - so the cursor changes when you hover over a region that's undrawable.

there is nothing more humbling than getting absolutely destroyed by boolean logic probably around 10 times in the last two days.

I get the "<" mixed up with the ">" and it make me pay for it.

In the flip drawing mode - the drawing that you have to copy gets flipped upside down. Players were having some trouble understanding it.

I added this little effect to help make that a bit clearer (rather than just showing the flipped image immediately).

Yesterday we ran a table at the Toronto Expo for Chicken Scratch! Went in with very low expectations and ended up spending 11 hours straight showing the game to people. 🤯

Lots of notes for improvements to make and got a lot of positive reception! Super rewarding experience. 😄

I think that one might be too distracting (even if I agree that it would be very funny :P)

I've been working on a clearer way of communicating scoring in Chicken Scratch. The Calcutron shows an itemized list of sources of birdbucks & penalties before it prints the money you earned on an order.

But, it also plateaus very quickly and the engagement with each view hasn't been particularly strong (only 10-20% of viewers stay to watch). I'm guessing that's mainly because of the content of the shorts I've been posting so far. I need to think more about how to pull people in right off the bat.

After posting the first short - it was a little surprising just how much exposure the video gets. In the graph here, within the first three hours of basically every short I've posted, I got at least a few hundred "views". Which feels like way more exposure than you would ever get with longer videos

All of the videos I've been posting are highlights like this from playtests. I'm planning to eventually try some other forms of content, but I mainly wanted to post similar content over the course of a week to see how small changes would affect how many views each short would get.

Workshopping a new case type called Body where you and another player draw a person with a quality for the head and a quality for the torso.

Might still need a bit of work in terms of how it works (maybe with a clearer guessing sheet) but I do think the drawings are fun.

You know that whole "is it a rabbit or is it a duck" illusion? We uh.. accidentally made it last night. Four of us had to work together to draw "Original Bird" and the final guesser thought it was "Vaulting Ear". One of my favourite moments from playtesting, I was dying.
