Telling a story about who the city is, shaping its idenitt; where we’ve been and where we’re going, is always important in city politics. Seeing policies stacked on one another over time. Ultimately the people who vote in city elections are rooted and know enough to have an opinion.

Minneapolis has always been open to newer arrivals in office. Arne Carlson was from NY. Goodman, Palmisano and Jenkins from Chicago.

I do think theres a constituency for a neighborhood based townie city-centric agenda that is welcoming but is rooted; with a longer memory going back a few mayors.

Given the timing, both the extraordinary time lapsed and the election in between, I will be curious to learn if the links were broken before or after the piece was actually published. One key data point I want is to learn the level of coordination on some level behind the scenes.
