I used to write laws… then I invented Knee Defender. ex-HPSCI, ex-Senate tech, taxes, trade/FP, ethics, antitrust… crime & even reputed parliamentarian
If it's also waiving sovereign immunity, I wonder if any of these "special" eight senators will include a defamation claim. 🤔

Spending Bill Would Pave Way for Senators to Sue Over Phone Searches (Gift Article)
Republicans have voiced outrage that Jack Smith looked at G.O.P. lawmakers’ phone records surrounding the Jan. 6 attack. Legislation to reopen the government would allow them to sue for $500,000 each.

AI idea #2: If you gave it Riddicks & every Record since ~1991, and told it to bookmark & summarize parliamentary inquiries & answers, and points of order and results, could it do a good job at that?

AI idea #3: If you gave it Dreschler's & the Record, could it creates a Senate Dreschler's? 😳

I wonder… If you gave an AI "agent" Riddick's, and every relevant CRS report, and told it to use what's in the reports to write a Riddick's supplement, if that would produce smth good. Part of that hypo: The concept that CRS has the necessary content, but not in an accessible compendium form.

And so the "$350B from S Korea" that Trump uses to claim we'd take a "$3T" hit is BS.
November 11, 2025 at 3:57 PM
Iow, it helped Trump appear to make a big deal.

The tone of this is too kind to Trump, but some of the details are good. www.reuters.com/business/aut...

If only Roberts knew that many of those "deals" are illusions. Eg, the $350B Trump's been claiming South Korea will give him to invest in the US. Nope. Already $150B has now been allocated to S Korean business investment in the US – ie, what they'd be doing anyway. And a $20B/yr payment *max*.

Trump's saying about Dems what Putin says about him.

If Johnson were misinformed, or simply uninformed either way, I'm thinking he would have explicitly invoked "the rules" – "The rules don't allow it." (afaik, he's not said that) And there would have been no reason to shut down every session IMMEDIATELY after the Pledge.
November 11, 2025 at 5:31 AM
... (even though the staffer wouldn't be paid until after the shutdown).

But at least they should have treated her as a member-elect is after a general election (which afaik hasn't been an issue before b/c here's not been an involuntary delay like this before): She should already have an office, phone, office machines, and an allowance for (iirc) one staffer…

We know this can be done, but I did not know it had been done during a joint session during a challenge of a state's electoral votes. 🤯

Oh, so "motion to discharge" is right, but "motion to vacate" is wrong? WTH?!
November 11, 2025 at 4:28 AM
PSA: When House records show it recessed from Sep 20-Nov 11, that means it was not in session on Sep 20 or any day after up to _and including_ Nov 11, then returned on the 12th. So to calculate how many days that recess lasted, if you subtract Sep 20 from Nov 11, you may need to add 1. 🤯

Details aside that you mentioned re waiting for the discharge petition call-up to ripen, do you know if a member (or even a member-elect), who by right has more-privileged business, may yield to another member to call up less-privileged business – or (as I suspect) even if so, is it up to the chair?
