The noisy minority who are being funded by those who stand to lose in a transition are loud - very loud.
Doesn’t mean they are winning, or that there’s no progress, despite their plans…

For my local context, and the ascendancy of commercial as opposed to community values, look up Vancouver, BC: Robson Street, historic photos, 1970’s to present.
They got their Zara outlet, while abandoning utterly community values. The mallification and suburbanization of a city centre community. Fn

It comes down to raw economic value, as well as community values, that justify alteration of historic structures.
Otherwise the Royal Mile would have been replaced years ago by the soulless facades of modern mercantilism, with a Zara outlet just across the street from Edinburgh castle…

Thanks! Although I’ve got considerable industrial history chops, I don’t have the local knowledge, only having been in Edinburgh once, far too many years ago.
Plus: is ancient/old iron really better? Re: Titanic… there’s metal fatigue at play as well…
But I do know enough about heritage…
