Trying to balance staying informed with staying sane. Not sure it’s working.
Today’s hopium: is Trump issuing all these pardons now instead of waiting for a more politically opportune moment because he’s actually dying?

Dems ended the shutdown because they were afraid of losing the filibuster.

I think that would have been an acceptable outcome but if your whole game is lip service to regular folks while protecting corporate and moneyed interests, can see why keeping the filibuster was important to them.

If companies as small as 500 employees can go self insured for health benefits, why not an entire state? Or region? Why not a collective of citizens in NJ, NY and CT?

The Guardian has much better framing in the headline about whether Greg is lying again. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
Border patrol chief reprimanded for lying claims shots were fired at immigration officers in Chicago
Gregory Bovino was called out by a judge only two days earlier for lying about being assaulted by a protester

I read read The Dawn of Everything by David Greaber and David Wengrow and really loved it. Sono recommended it to a couple colleagues w/o realizing that D Greaber was an anarchist and accidentally radicalized a couple of Pharmaceutical Executives.

Oops.

THIS
i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

I have a completely shallow beef with the No Kings movement: they are trying to brand the color yellow as our “thing”, which for me personally, is a terrible color choice.

Does any one look good in yellow?? I own nothing in yellow.

I guess I could get a hat and some socks, but really guys?

Remember folks. The original bluesky ethos by us bluesky elders (apparently I count?) is block and move on.

Don't quote dunk, don't pick fights.
Block, and move on.

This is what made this site unpalatable to the right early on, and we can continue to make it unpalatable to them.

My grandmother was 16 when the nazis invaded her home. She joined the underground eventually and did some wild and dangerous stuff. When asked how she was so brave she said she realized that when everything was equally risky and nothing was safe, you may as well be bold.

In approximately 20 minutes I have to transfer my purring cat, who isn’t eating and losing weight, from my lap to her carrier. She was a feral rescue and wicked smart. She definitely knows something is up, but she’s also been super sweet and I think she may be asking for help.
Will report back.

Would this mean the states vying for immigrant detention centers don’t get the census population boost they were hoping for?

My mom and stepdad are from the same diaspora group as Zohran Mamdani’s dad (same like “my stepdad was kicked out of the same town and knows some of his classmates”) and apparently the New York Times doesn’t understand how diaspora works, so I am going to tell you a little about my mom’s people!

I am not super optimistic that the Dem gerontocracy will learn the right lessons from Mamdani’s win but here’s my analysis anyway: newrepublic.com/article/1972...
Mamdani Did All the Things the Establishment Hates. He Won Anyway.
There’s a growing appetite for something new and innovative growing among the electorate—and an opportunity for Democrats to grow that electorate, as well.
