🧩 Also highly relevant: a modeling study from Bin Zhang group predicts condensed euchromatin domains with active protrusions. Perfectly complementary to our findings! 3

Is euchromatin really open in the cell?
Growing evidence has demonstrated that strings of nucleosomes, consisting of DNA wrapped around core histones [1], are rather irregularly and dynamically folded as chromatin in the cell (Figure 1A,B) ...

🎥 Video: See chromatin in action — each dot is a single nucleosome, dynamically fluctuating in a living HeLa cell (TMR-labeled, 50 ms/frame).

Single-nucleosome imaging reveals steady-state motion of interphase chromatin in living human cells
Local chromatin motion remains steady during interphase, allowing cells to conduct housekeeping tasks under similar environments.

We quantitatively measured nucleosome motion across the 4 chromatin classes, from euchromatin to heterochromatin.
🧪 More euchromatic regions (i.e., earlier-replicated regions) show greater nucleosome motion.
🎉 Congrats @katsuminami.bsky.social @kakonakazato.bsky.social and all collaborators!
