What I read this week: 📚💙

🎧 The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks: I finally finished this for my book club. I was glad to learn about the history here, but am not sure how to feel about the book itself, especially the audio production. Is there more to read about HeLa? #booksky

📚💙 What I’ve read this week:

📙James by Percival Everett- an easy 5 stars. A satisfying spin on a classic. Would love to teach this one in an AP lit class.

🎧 Three Lives of Kate Cay- enjoyable + along the lines of 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, if you liked that one. Audio was great.

It’s the beginning of the March Slice of Life writing challenge! Here’s my first post: readerteacherwriter.weebly.com/blog/lessons...
Lessons from a Foster Dog
Since our beloved Callie passed away in November, my husband and I were walking around in a fog. Our routines were upended, we felt an enormous hole in our lives, and we spent hours laying around...

We have had our foster puppy for almost a full month now. She’s teaching us some stuff and we’re teaching her some stuff and everybody’s having fun 80% of the time. 🤣 Rescue dogs are the best.

💙📚 #booksky What I read this week:

🎧The Berry Pickers: one of my book clubs chose this book and I enjoyed it overall. Nothing in it was a big surprise, but it was a good story and I liked the indigenous and historical parts of the book.

Next read is The Three Lives of Cate Kay!

I finally finished reading Onyx Storm this week- on to my book club books of the month! 🐉 Onyx Storm was 3.5 stars for me. Not my favorite of the series by any means. It wasn’t bad, but I feel like not that much happened?

Oscar Watch 2025:

Posting my thoughts but not ranking this year’s movies because they’re too different and good.

Wicked is the perfect movie musical. If you don’t like musicals, fine. But it’s perfect. Wicked deserves its flowers.

What I’m reading this week:

📖 I read about half of James, which I am LOVING…

🐉 And then Onyx Storm came out and I jumped to that to try to read it before it gets spoiled for me!

📚💙 What I read this week:

🎧The Anxious Generation: I know there’s some controversy around this one, but IMO the general message is sound. 5 star listen

📚Trial of the Sun Queen: read the first 3 books in this series this week. I am totally engrossed in this 🌶️ romantasy- a great escape! #booksky

First book(s) of 2025 #booksky 💙📚

📘The Ministry of Time- I loved it. Unique take on time travel, complex characters, interesting visions of the future. 4.75 stars

🎧Currently listening to Somewhere Beyond the Sea- sequel to House in the Cerulean Sea. It’s a bit obvious, but still heartwarming.

What I read this week 💙📚:
🎧Finally finished Heir of Fire audiobook. Enjoyed it, but Throne of Glass really isn’t doing it for me as a whole.
📙Finished All Fours by Miranda July- what a wild read, so unexpected. I’d love to discuss. There were really great moments and some that left me confused.

Booksky 📚💙- I’m gonna need somebody to remind me all the things that happened in Fourth Wing and Iron Flame before Onyx Storm comes out…

I have had my mental health ups and downs, but I’ve never felt less sane than I feel watching this Simpsons version of MNF. What. The. Hell.

This is some excellent sports reporting and, for all the teachers out there, a great piece to use as a mentor text or real world geometry/physical science application!
the fine people over at @sbnation.bsky.social asked me to come back(!!!) and write about Baltimore's Justin Tucker problem.
so I called a special teams coach who's been friends with John Harbaugh for 20 years to learn what's going wrong and if the Ravens can fix it:

Why Justin Tucker is missing kicks this year, explained by a special teams coach
Is the Ravens’ Justin Tucker problem salvageable?

I love Spotify Wrapped season. I wish there were other data about my own life and others’ lives I could see each year! 🤓 Finding out how many of my friends also had a pink pilates princess strut pop 2024 was highly validating.

💙📚 What I read this week:

📕Nickel Boys: 💯 recommend. In the vein of Just Mercy, but fictionalized. A story of deep injustice, intimate, harrowing.

📙Margo’s Got Money Troubles: Funny, weird, realistic contemporary litfic. I loved it, one of my faves of 2024. Lots of possible triggers.
December 2, 2024 at 1:11 AM
Really not fun to watch a beloved player on your home team deteriorate and lose games for your team so obviously. Tucker deserved to go out on top, not like this.

Used to love bookstagram but the photos kind of exhaust me. I want to remember my impressions of what I read and talk about books without the pressure to stage a pic or make a reel. Maybe this is the new space for it? 💙📚

What’s the best book you have read in 2024? I have been in a slump, but I’m breaking out of it.
