Wow! This was a definitely an interesting topic. I always wondered how the food worked on cruises. What they do with all the leftovers and how much it cost. It never crossed my mind that they would use leftovers as a fuel source for other parts of the cruises! 🤯
Want to see a circular bioeconomy, with minimal food waste and max energy recycling?

I learned a lot from this amazing story about ruthless efficiency in pursuit of customer service:

From what I have learned this semester I plan to use a welcoming and non-judgemental environment when talking to patients about their nutrition choices. Many don't speak out due to the fear of being judge. I want patients to be able to trust and communicate in healthcare #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I agree that starting off the day with a normal breakfast is important it helps balance the day. I don't really understand why people believe that skipping meals will help them consume more food when it is time to eat a big meal. Did it once and in the first bite I noticed I wasn't hungry anymore. 😅

One thing I am looking in a nutrition post is the credentials of the person. Anyone can write a post regarding nutrition but not everyone has a background in nutrition where they understand the information they post online @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I see a lot of social media influencers promote supplements for skin, hair, vitamins, etc. They always talk about how it is the "best" supplement out there. Most of the times influencers are bound by contracts however they do not do their research. It feels like more of a money grab for them.

I choose this article because it is easy to navigate for parents and it talks about nutrition intake for children and types of food they should eat but also the importance of introducing food to children early in childhood and having children trying food more once @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I love this quote! Many people think that when they make a mistake their goal is unreachable. Which is not true at all! we will make mistakes and mess up over and over again. They key is not giving up no matter how many mistakes you make. A journey is never linear there will always be ups and downs

What stood out to me in Tom's story is the MA and his "friend" backhanded comment that caused him to stray away from medical help. We shouldn't judge those who struggle with their weight, instead supporting them like Silvia and his wife will help them in their journey @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I learn something new everyday! I didn't know that some egg carton labels advertise "cage-free." I didn't even know that was a thing that may be advertised to the public. Although I pay attention to labels I may need to start paying extra attention to the egg cartons🤔

Something that stuck out to me is that ppl in late adolescence and early adulthood don't have a lot of programs for those who are struggling with obesity. I think we should also focus on that range as many high school students may experience fat shaming from their peers. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

At first it seems more cheaper and who wouldn't want to eat healthy but when you start to add and compare it gets expensive and out of budget quick. Whole grain bread can range from $3-6 while white bread can go from $1-3. If ppl are on a budget most will choose the unhealthy option bc its cheaper

One barrier I relate to is not having the time to cook meals that are healthy and incorporating fruits. I feel like I barely eat any fruits in the week+I am on campus for the entire day so I don't have the time nor energy to make food even if I try to prepare in advance #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I love this article! When I carve pumpkins for Halloween I never know what to do with the seeds or the left over funiculus. Now I know I can try to roast them or create other recipes! I try not to paint the pumpkins bc sometimes wildlife come around and eat them. Paint can be toxic to wildlife 🎃

I believe that this article is a good way to introduce people to vitamins. It talks about how vitamins are not FDA regulated + how vitamins are usually meant for deficiency and certain conditions + to look out for "natural" ingredients and influencers on social media #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
What doctors wish patients knew about vitamins and supplements
With more than 100,000 different supplements available, it is unclear what is safe to take. Three physicians aim to clear things up about vitamins and supplements.

My nutrition course is currently talking about resources we would give to our patients. I believe that your articles would be a great way to introduce patients to nutrients and much more! Almonds and nuts offer protein but when adding salt it can through off the fiber and protein balance! 🫶

This article talks about dietary fiber. I believe it's a good resource because it categorizes different ways to have a healthy lifestyle. It also has an in-depth article, intro, resources and expert answers. They also link expert answers to articles they've researched! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

The raw food fad diet sounds similar to organic food. No pesticides and no GMOs. However why do people believe that eating raw meat and fish will help? I think people aren't doing research. Why is heating food considered as unnatural? I have so many unanswered questions #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Is there any research on the benefits of going to sleep before it gets late that may be credible? I wanted to ask how does it help with weight management and boost immune system? What if you sleep early but still wake up with little energy? I think consistency plays a role in improving your health 🤔
October 12, 2025 at 10:48 PM
Consistency in nutrition can also be trying to achieve a goal that you keep making mistakes on! I agree you don't need to come up with a new goal each quarter. Staying consistent will help with future goals! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

My sandwich recipe is whole wheat bread, sunny side eggs, lettuce, mayonnaise, and avocado. If I wanted to make a nutrient dense sandwich I can use healthy oils for frying the eggs instead of butter, a cup of fruits on the side and swap for a whole grain bread instead🥪 #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Is there a reason why companies avoid putting the true ingredients in labels? Would it be considered a false label if not all "whole grain" actually mean it? Is there consequences at all? 🤔

It was easy for me to document since I wrote it in my notes. My meals consist of beans, rice, and chicken from home. I ate a bunch of guava candy throughout the day. However I am surprised of the amount of water intake. I only drank 2 bottles of water for the entire day. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I agree!!! Many influencers say food is just fuel but sometimes they don't go into depth about what it fuels. There is so much science behind "food is fuel." For me food was a way for my friends and I to connect while making memories and connect to other cultures! 🫶
“food is just fuel” is a popular saying in the fitness world. and sure, food can be fuel, but it can also be so much more.

food can be a way to connect with other people, cultures, and our memories.

you don’t have to moralize foods or punish yourself for enjoying them.

One fun fact that I learned was that the peel of an apple is insoluble while the inside of the apple is soluble which help lower cholesterol by secreting excess cholesterol from the liver. Fiber is important to our health as it helps with our digestive system!

Ep. 205 is a great way to introduce sugar in nutrition. I see many people talk about swapping sugary food for vegetables and fruits to lose weight. I don't think people realize that sugar exist in fruits. It's important to understand the difference of natural sugar vs added sugar!
