We have a cargo van and I just dropped the van off at the auto service center - it was the quietest I've ever seen it. The manager said all the maintenance for fleet vehicles and gov contractors is on hold.

BlackRock is leading a consortium buying Minnesota Power in a private equity foray into utilities. The decision will be made tomorrow. Meanwhile, Gov. Walz's Department of Commerce flipped to supporting the deal, & emails show numerous contacts with the acquisition’s supporters. From James Baratta:

Many utilities are regulated and have to request approval from the state public utility commission to increase rates to their customers - your state PUC is failing you. Utilities are jacking up your rates and giving your money to shareholders (especially in CA).

This was at 14th & R in Washington DC, this morning (Sunday).

What the hell is happening to the US?

one of the most infuriating parts of the Epstein story is over the same years that young women went to police and reported assault, and were ignored, law enforcement is pushing this idea that they need massive grants and manpower to rescue thousands of girls they say don’t even know they’re victims

Increasingly understanding "energy dominance" to mean energy authoritarianism. Rooftop and community solar helps democratize energy production, putting money in consumer pockets instead of centralized utilities. Illegally cutting these grants disempowers lower-income communities, in every sense.

This is fantastic breakdown of just how fake much of the mythology around what America and American families looked like. It also deconstructs the myth of rugged individualism, from settler “pioneers” to 1950s suburbanites relied heavily on government subsidies.

It’s hard to find a trend in the electricity system right now that *doesn’t* point to near-term rate hikes if not a broad affordability crisis. That’s a serious problem for climate policy, but also the American economy writ large. I wrote about it: heatmap.news/politics/ele...

The climate and biodiversity costs to opening up roadless areas are astronomical. The roadless rule protects over half of Tongass National Forest, which is home to over 400 species of wildlife and stores more than 10% of the carbon accumulated by all national forests across the US.
The Trump administration said that it would open up 58 million acres of back country in national forests to road construction and development, removing protections that had been in place for a quarter century.
Trump Administration to End Protections for 58 Million Acres of National Forests
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the Clinton-era rule barring road construction and logging was outdated and “absurd.”

NEW: Cheaper batteries mean near-24/365 solar is now economic☀️

We analysed 18 years of hourly insolation data at 12 places, to see how close to 24/365 electricity it was possible to get.

The sunniest places get over 90% - and up to 99% - of the way... from just $100/MWh. 🧵
