I picked up a half-finished draw last night and accidentally found the zone for several hours, SO. The trio is complete.
(I still need to do white highlights on her tho; will do after errands)
a photograph of three physical pieces of art done in pen and copic markers- Barney Calhoun, Gordon Freeman, and Alyx Vance from Half-Life 2. They are surrounded by flowers with a particular color scheme and meaning to them. Barney has white and black lilies with a couple blue snapdragons, Gordon has a variety of orange and gold and dead flowers with some human bones and a skull hidden among them (also vibes of Dia de los Muertos), and Alyx has one background sunflower like a halo and a bunch of metal roses, paper roses amd forget-me-nots made from colored newspaper or book pages, and a few flowers that resemble the head of her robot, DOG.

Whenever I say this, people get Really Mad, but it's true. Same of any other art, too. You have to read the book, watch the film, see the painting, listen to the song, whatever.

I'm sorry, but watching a video about it on YouTube is not enough. You have not experience the art.

the whole "don't play the game, just watch a video on youtube that will explain its story to you" is so disheartening because the issue of accessibility is genuinely really important but it's always just people who want to be spoon-fed nicely quantifiable information

So much media you can't fully understand just by watching someone else play it or summarize it!
Tumblr post from user beemovieerotica reading: not to be a killjoy but it’s still crazy to me that it’s considered mean to be like “maybe you should read / play / watch the source material before creating fanworks and diving into the fandom” bc every time i see somebody going “i havent played disco elysium or know anything about it tbh but uwu here’s harry and kim kissing” idk maybe you should engage with it. maybe you should play the anti-capitalist surrealist game where you investigate the murder of a mercenary who led the gang rape of a foreign girl and process that for a bit? and then you can do cutesy mlm or whatever idc. but like at the absolute bare minimum you should understand what the source material involves otherwise we get the phenomenon of people joining a dragon age server and wanting content warnings for like, mage racism. like it’s fine to ship and transform the genre into whatever but if you arent comfortable with discussions of the actual source content itself then maybe the fandom isnt for you and a different one is. peace and love.

Forever lamenting the discordification of fandom spaces. So much art and conversation is hidden in private communities, only vaguely referenced in public and entirely inaccessible without intentional networking, which has never been my strong suit. Grateful for the communities I’ve found but… man.
