I've basically not posted anything online for a little while now and don't really want to actively use twitter anymore so I guess my random technical rambling will continue here.
Steam review moderation sucks apparently, and god damn they should be doing better, but it's turning into a "let's all shit on the Valve monopoly" thing again and I can only conclude there's hate on both sides and I want fuck all to do with it

So the latter has arrived and it's about as garbage as I expected. CH340 directly connected to a DB9, so it's TTL not real RS232. Seems it's pot luck whether a given device / transceiver will be okay with that but first device I tried said no and I'm not comfortable plugging it into anything else.
USB to serial adapters, 2007 vs 2025. The hardware gets worse but the transparent-blue aesthetic never dies.

The pain of acquiring a device that takes rare memory cards nobody has because they were only used in weird industrial control systems from 20+ years ago... Seriously if someone can help me get a ML-64PC card (or -32) then I'll make cheap clones for the very few people in the world who may need them

Woo, weird old card reader for a weird old niche SRAM card... maybe. I think this goes with their ML-64PC and similar cards used in industrial control equipment, but at least one seller in the past has called it a PCMCIA reader so I'm not sure...

There are multiple cursed things going on here. Two XA sockets, three XH plugs with the locking tab things shaved off. Power going in where power is supposed to come out. I don't even know if this is enough to access the debug console but it should be if they designed it sensibly.

Anyone used something like an osmo-fl2k to output something like software-defined CVBS? That would be neat for things like test pattern generators on the cheap I think.

Turns out my new CPU is quite happy at full load with the biggest undervolt I can get on this board. Can't say for certain that it'll be stable long term but it's wild to see temps hanging around 68°C during benchmarks when at stock voltage it was touching the 95 limit.

Unusual colored translucent TO-92 packages!

These are current-regulating diodes of various types, made by LED manufacturer OptoSupply. They don't emit light on their own but are used in LED driver circuits.

They likely repurposed a diffused LED production line to make color-coded packages.

Ebay seems convinced that polyvinyl alcohol is the same thing as isopropyl alcohol

Less than 36 hours left on this, message me if you want to help, even if just grabbing one item you like. Most items on the store are ¥220 each, delivered by email as a secure download link, and need a credit card (use Wise or something if you're worried about conversion fees).
If anyone has a lot of money to spend on archival, there's like ¥190,000 (by my estimate) worth of purchasable downloads on the Kyoani download store that disappears on November 28, seemingly not offered anywhere else. Idk if anyone else has archived it yet. www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/information/...

Heard the term "knock-on effect" again and now I'm trying to work out why I interpreted it so weirdly as a kid. I didn't see it written so missed the hyphen and heard "knock(verb) on effect(noun)" meaning something like "impact on the situation"??? Maybe that's just how my parents (mis)used it idk.

"I wanted to let you know that the domain name kasami‍.com is coming up for sale soon. I thought you might be interested in it since it could be a great addition to your current domains."

kinda wish this wasn't a scam but idk I'm happy with a 6 letter .net I think

I should definitely be doing this with baked samples at this point but... SID filters in XM sounding better than expected.

Trying to reverse engineer [thing that won't be around much longer] and [important step] requires an AWS signature that the backend only gives you if you already successfully authenticated, otherwise it just redirects you to the auth screen.... pain

For a moment I thought youtube decided to go with the "correct" lowercase-k suffix for kilo on like/sub/view counts. Turns out they just made them ALL lowercase. God dammit.

Man I love this environment I've created for myself where random "electrical smells" just happen on a regular basis and nothing ever actually breaks or catches fire so I never find the source :)

A page I archived a while ago on wayback machine has hundreds of photos linking to larger versions. For some reason it consistently fails to grab most of them even with "save outlinks" checked. Anything I can do about it besides extracting URLs myself and feeding them to the archive tool one by one?

Oh cool, new black rectangle from the company that likes shitting on software emulation. All your favorite influencers are here to read out the AI marketing and tell you how FPGA is a gift from God. You don't have to hope it's right. It is. It's just built right. It just works. FPGA has it for you.

Love how tenor's duration limit is 14 seconds and I rendered something at exactly 14 seconds long and then reencoded and uploaded it and it was rejected because somehow it ended up with a duration of 14.01 seconds
