“A few bad apples” is always used to deflect criticism of systemic problems in NZ.

Schopenhauer’s entropy is a more realistic way to think about it: “If you put a spoonful of wine in a barrel full of sewage, you get sewage. If you put a spoonful of sewage in a barrel full of wine, you get sewage.”

Have decided I’m only voting for people who use public libraries from now on, please present your library card to me while door knocking.

The govt's third constitutional outrage this week: the secret Equal Pay Act rug-pull, blocking the CTU and other civil society groups from the Budget lockup, now the unprecedented decision to bar democratically-elected Māori leadership from the same Budget

Authoritarian populism wielded as a weapon
This is the worst punishment handed down EVER in our history. The worst on record was 3 days! When Tangata whenua resist, colonial powers reach for maximum penalty. This is a warning shot to all of us to fall in line. E kore rawa matau e tuohu!

Hey, #lianza #kikorangi folks I reckon Librarians might be keen on protecting NZ internet domains from a takeover by these dangerous muppets. Grab the coins from down the back of the sofa and join to keep the barbarians from wrecking it.

I tend to forget that this doesn't happen on the regular in other places.
I remember the cheeky penguins who nested under the Sushi Stall outside the main Railway Station ...smart.

A big chunk of the anglosphere will get Lee's quips (but he, at least, pops in some handy links for the commonwealth-bemused folk)

Atlas Network? Yawn.
One of the most compelling articles I’ve read about Atlas Network is from The Guardian columnist George Monbiot.

This question and Hera's beautiful response made me teary.
Because some of my close people chose public service work because they wanted to serve, to make things better, and they now find themselves being mocked and vilified and laid off by people who only serve themselves.

Help Me Hera: Everything feels so hopeless
I work in the public service because I want to serve the public. But right now that just doesn't seem possible.
