How is it that 'The Sun has been told', immediately makes me wonder (a) if other papers have also been told, or (b) how they are privileged with info not shared elsewhere?

Caught the end of a Gaelic programme about Faroese cooking. All looked great until the boiled sheep's head.
Sorry, but we didn't fancy it!

Attempts at fixing gender equality at leadership level all tell us to adopt behaviours largely exhibited by men to ‘get there’: be more assertive& ambitious, less humble, sensitive & reflective etc. They don’t tell men to adopt any of our dominant behaviours. This messaging is in itself patriarchal.

Nobody at Edinburgh U really wants to go on strike again but the threat of mass jobs cuts means we're withdrawing our labour this week to try protecting our colleagues. If I see one more vaguely worded threat about "savings" via automation I may combust. @ucuedinburgh.bsky.social

'After vigorous and partially successful attempts to save modern languages degrees at Cardiff...and the University of Aberdeen in the past two years, linguists are now called upon to point out the equally obvious folly of cutting modern languages at the universities of Nottingham and Leicester.' 1/3
The latest threat to UK modern languages is yet another faux pas
Nottingham and Leicester are taking a swing at language departments. But those proposing closures have taken their eye off the ball, say four linguists

Friday afternoon find in the #Archives. A memo is sent to three of the Edinburgh managers of #ThomasNelson, in July 1956. They may have to entertain a couple of visitors from Melbourne whilst their colleague is away. 'It might be wise to point out that Mr C is a teetotaller'.
Hope they remembered!

#ArchivesDay and I can't think of a less appealing book title than 'The Unamiable Child'. I don't think #ThomasNelson offered the author a contract!
However, isn't that exactly what #HorridHenry was ... ?

Possibly useless information, but I have to share!
@qmueresearch.bsky.social if anyone at QMU is researching your ancestor, Edinburgh College of of Domestic Science, then I can advise them that there was a bunch of correspondence with publisher #ThomasNelson in 1933 about a book they were producing.

#ArchivesDay. Classic mistake from a rookie author in 1932: they write ASKING THE PUBLISHER #ThomasNelson if they publish a particular genre. Someone evidently didn't do their research! Nelson's reply does not survive.

#ArchivesDay. My curiosity is piqued by a book proposal to #ThomasNelson for a collection of prayers. The editor doesn't think 'that we want any prayers, but will decide finally when [he sees] how Mr D. Had prayed!'
No, this is not actually the gentleman I'm trying to track down ...

During Victorian times mending clothes was essential, especially for working-class people as they could vary rarely afford new shop-bought clothing.
