The trouble is it’s a lot easier to criticise a nation’s past when the sins are out there in the open. For better or worse, the US’ history is (mostly) fairly well covered. Nobody learns about the bad stuff in British history in school. Most people are oblivious.

In the current political climate the reaction is all too depressingly predictable. We should have had something like this years ago. The problem is nobody wants to voluntarily take their medicine about their country’s past.

I just finished watching David Olusoga’s excellent documentary series ‘Empire’ tonight. It’s a crime how little of this stuff I knew about, and I always thought I was relatively clued up. I imagine the average Brit knows even less.

Sometimes I get nostalgic for usenet, and then I remember that 90% of it was this kind of drivel.

An actual example of a Wii U game ported to the Switch would be Mario Kart 8.
November 16, 2025 at 7:25 PM
This interpretation relies on the fantasy that Nintendo staff working on the game were oblivious to the Switch also being in development and needing a strong launch title. It may have been begun as a Wii U title, but its features would have coalesced around shared hardware very early on.

That’s just simultaneous release for different platforms, something that happens all the time for games from multiplatform publishers. We don’t call those ports either.

I think your definition of a port is stretching things a bit. It wasn’t a game released years prior that they then adapted so as to re-release it. Nintendo knew what their future hardware plans were when they started developing this game.

I really feel like she’s the third in a trilogy of flawed hero/villain characters after Walter White and Jimmy McGill. Not a heroic or ‘good’ person, but also not a truly bad one. And I’m absolutely here for it.

It wasn’t a port. It was released simultaneously for both Wii U and Switch.

Good luck! You might be able to use a vacuum cleaner hose extension on the heatsink exhaust vent to suck dust out.
November 15, 2025 at 8:38 PM
I’m sure you’ve already tried this, but on the off chance you haven’t: have you checked to see if there’s any dust build-up in the heatsink of the GPU? A friend had this issue and it was causing the card to throttle massively due to poor thermal performance.

I’m hoping that it’s actually one giant continuous strand, and then hidden under the pile somewhere it’s been attached to a giant block of concrete.
