This is the personal/musical account for Joe Wall (pro account elsewhere)

Raconteur, writer, musician, bricoleur, flanneur, enthusiast of French automobiles, plywood, manual typewriters, electric fans, and avoiding hats, golf, skiing, and cruise ships.
It's so weird how that insipid American far right spent the past forty years shrieking about jackbooted thugs and tyrants in power and yet here we are, and who's wearing the jackboots?

Oh dear.

I contend that Ryuichi Sakamoto was the only person in the history of our species who didn't look stupid in a long coat.

My problem as a performer using electronic instruments is that I end up looking like a radio repairman looking quizzically at a panel when, in my heart of hearts, I want to free up my inner Jo Ann Castle at the keys.

It's telling about my approach to electronic music that my favorite synthesis architectures are unrepentantly digital. Forty years after these instruments were the hot new thing, they're still capable of surprising the ear. #synthesis #digitalsynthesis #electronicmusic

I lose interest in cars the moment they get so wide that I can't reach over from the driver's seat and touch the passenger window without having to lean over. Navigating the world in an aircraft carrier is for navies.

I've been working through ideas for a little shed where I can write, read, and make music, and it's so easy to start leaning towards oversized, ornate designs when the truth is that all I really want is a refrigerator box to call my own.

Alas, the kit cars based on 2CV platforms usually follow the Lotus 7 form factor, which is way, way too mortifying for me as a man of a certain age (those cars just scream AREN'T-I-SPECIAL at top of lungs), and I don't think anyone makes a kit of any variety as simple as a Midget/Sprite, alas.

I've long since outgrown my dreamy youthful Anglophilia, particularly when it comes to their wretched cars, but I do still feel like I should own an MG Midget, even briefly, before my eventual demise. Compared to my stalwart 2CV, a Midget would be a trial, but hell if they're not compact and bijou.

I'm feeling glum and frustrated, so I made mediocre crumpets.

What Music Has the Right to Children did for you, Quique did for me, but five years sooner and with more deliciously hypnotic repetition.

I dislike cars and driving unless they're French (or possibly Italian, if they're compact and bijou). Even then, I only enjoy driving when I am going nowhere in particular.

Commuting by car is less pleasant than the Permian-Triassic extinction event.

Whenever some white guy calls me "brother" in that noxious douchebro mouthnoise beloved of men you'd never want to *actually* be your brother, my finger reflexively hovers over the "you're canceled" button, with a hair trigger, because who has time for that mess?

The downside to how happy I am with the first roll off my Ektar H35 half-frame camera is that now I want to buy myself a Pentax 17 or a nice old Olympus Pen F, but maybe I should eschew feature creep. That said, exposure control might be an improvement.

I don't care for telephoto/zoom lenses. I prefer to get what I can see from where I'm standing or use my feet to zoom. I get why people like them, I suppose, but I'd rather have a smaller camera that's better suited to what made me want to catch a shot in the first place.

My father wrote with a $1k Meisterstück and I use a $22 Safari; both plastic pens with an aesthetic. Nibs are different, I suppose, but not so much that I notice. Plus, the shape of the Lamy makes it easier to orient the nib and I won't faint if my $22 Lamy falls out of my portfolio. #pens #thrifty

I have no qualms about admitting that some of my happiest times from the ages of 9 to 20 were spent in study carrels. Each was a well-bounded world for me.

I contend that if Space:1999 had writing on a par with its art direction, costuming, and casting, it would still be a going concern while Trek would be a quaint curiosity of its time like Lost In Space. Oy, the writing, though, especially that 2nd season.
