as someone who loves/and is educated in history, and also has known alot of journalists in my life. A lot of journalists are an encyclopaedia when it comes to the last 10-20 years of political news but have an absolutely terrible knowledge of wider history. Seems bizarre but very common
a good example of how the world is getting dumber. the new politico playbook writer didn't know who FDR was until a reader told him about that whole "new deal" thing. this newsletter is read by every important person in DC.
