Today in history, 1868: The 14th Amendment is formally adopted, granting citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the U.S. The Amendment resolved the question of citizenship of formerly enslaved people, and guaranteed to all citizens “equal protection of the laws.” /1

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

NEW: Trump is requesting a record $1.011 TRILLION for the Pentagon and war in FY 2026.

HALF of the Pentagon budget goes to for-profit contractors. This isn’t security, it’s shameless greed that makes us all less safe.

We need a foreign policy that prioritizes diplomacy, not profits for warmongers.

This isn’t some dramatic coup.

It’s death by a thousand legal cuts.

The Court’s expanding unchecked executive power, ignoring democratic safeguards.

They’re not dismantling democracy with tanks.

They’re doing it with footnotes, rulings, and robes.

RTing these comments re Edu Dept. They know the legal technicalities better than I do. The essence of it is clear to anyone who understands the basic logic of the constitution. These decisions, which the 6 arent even willing to issue as decisions, go past corrupt into something more like criminal.

Since April 4, #SCOTUS has issued 15 rulings on 17 emergency applications filed by Trump (three birthright citizenship apps were consolidated).

It has granted relief to Trump ... in all 15 rulings.

It has written majority opinions in only 3.

Today's order is the 7th with no explanation *at all.*
Here we go again: Over an acerbic dissenting opinion by Justice Sotomayor (joined in full by Justices Kagan and Jackson), #SCOTUS, with no explanation, grants a stay in the Department of Education RIFs case—effectively clearing the way for the Trump administration to dismantle much of the agency:

This seems bad.

Fucking Doge-bags.
A DOGE staffer has assumed control over the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), an agency traditionally independent from direct White House authority. Adam Blake, now serving as the DOGE-appointed lead at the NRC, has been tasked with carrying out directives from Trump.

There was no emergency that they needed to round up people faster than they can process them to send them back. They want to throw millions to their private prison buddies to house them. None of this was necessary. Biden deported 4 million without inhumane internment camps.

The Republican Party is not building an Alcatraz; it is building a Dachau.

The Republican Party Dachau is not built for Immigrants; they will just be the first detainees.

People are going to die. Trump voters recruited by GOP (ICE) will do the killing.

Should "never again" mean "never again to Jews" or "never again to anyone"? MAGA people, like Laura Loomer, have been making genocidal comments, saying 65 million people should be fed to alligators, which is the number of Latinos in the US. Calling out genocidal intent doesn't erase Jews.

Crypto is now Trump’s biggest moneymaker. If Congress passes a bill to regulate the industry, guess who gets even richer? His meme coin. His stable coin. His son’s bitcoin mining operation.

One witness said it: This isn’t policy. It’s a payoff.
