Live TV is less intimidating for me than filming video, something I haven't done since J-school 🫠

Deeply appreciated the help from my editor for this and our video producer putting it all together!

TL;DR Clearcutting remains a major part of BC's forestry industry. We just use "reserves" now 👇
B.C. says 1950s-style clear-cut logging isn’t happening anymore. Is that true? @sobittersosweet.bsky.social explains #clearcutlogging

But even as authorities increasingly support the ancient practice, he believes prescribed and cultural burns need even more buy-in from government, academia and media."

“Since the release of the Cowichan Title decision this past August, the issue of reconciliation, Aboriginal Title, and private fee simple title has been inflamed by this government’s inadequate response and opposition parties’ misinformation and disinformation,” said Rob Botterell, MLA.
The BC Greens are calling on the NDP government to implement a Three-Point Reconciliation Plan.

“We believe this 3-point plan can reset the tone, reduce tensions, and allow the land question to be addressed in the legislature with First Nations in a depoliticized way,” said MLA Botterell.

Some context on first reading division votes

Once unusual in the BC legislature, they have become routine this fall

Typically, bills proceed to second reading with a unanimous verbal vote. MLAs say, "Aye" - basically an acknowledgement there is merit to debating whatever the bill proposes #bcpoli
Yays: BC Conservative caucus, OneBC caucus and all three Independents (Kealy, Elenore Sturko and Amelia Boultbee)

Nays: BC NDP caucus, BC Green caucus

At an absolute minimum though, REMOVE PARKING REQUIREMENTS FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING.

While PM Carney’s fast-tracking initiative has been touted as a response to U.S. President Trump’s trade war, critics have pointed out the projects are largely backed by foreign-owned corporations — and include substantial U.S. investment.
