yapped so much about this, a series I love, that this is the first week we didn't do Out of Frame lol
Normally, we do smaller sends on Tuesdays, but we made an exception for @kambole.bsky.social's exceptional review of the Chainsaw Man movie.

re:frame #26, out now:
Love is a dog from hell
We review Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc, a dazzling feature which is at its most spectacular at its quietest.

was just a couple of months ago that an animation director said to me how this exact sequence inspired the characterisation on their own project (Hades 2 trailer). considering Nagamine's work in the most influential anime series of the past couple decades, probably much more where that came from
awful to hear that Tatsuya Nagamine has passed away at 53. this is perhaps narrowing a pretty broad filmography but man, did his work as director on Dragon Ball Super: Broly reignite a love of that series to a level I hadn’t felt since I was a kid. RIP

RIP to anime director Tatsuya Nagamine. One of the finest adventure anime directors of the modern era. He helped breath new life into long-running series and made them feel altogether vital again. The current One Piece boom wouldn't have been possible in the same way without him.

as well as this being a grim acceleration of apparatus for a surveillance state... man it's really like every day Labour are trying to make us hate them more
The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

The UK tech minister has said a VPN ban is on the table.

Me, @kambole.bsky.social, and @thesaintoftous.bsky.social have been at this newsletter thing twice a week, nonstop, since the beginning of August.

So, this Tuesday, we've gone fishin' in re:frame #29.5:
Gone fishin'
We're taking a day off, which in our case means we're only writing a few hundred words as opposed to triple that.

Pixar designed Toy Story to be printed on physical film. The Disney renaissance movies were the same.

Today, it's hard to see them as they were meant to be seen. The versions on streaming and home media aren't quite the same films that ruled the '90s:

Danny Brown’s new album is incredible, genre fusion bolstered by a guy who clearly has a new lease on life, which comes with renewed experimental ambition. The End might be one of the best tracks he’s ever made

Why you should be consuming ‘Chainsaw Man,’ in all of its forms
Whether it's the manga, anime series, or newly released film, the series pits man against demon, and materialism against self-respect.
