Vice President JD Vance: "I empathize with Americans who are exhausted after 25 years of foreign entanglements in the Middle East. I understand the concern, but the difference is that back then we had dumb presidents"

The Trump administration is moving to effectively eliminate a crucial protection in the half-century-old Endangered Species Act by redefining a single word: harm.

Read more about the move to redefine the word “harm” in the ESA and what that means for wildlife.

Between the FAA/Verizon/Starlink contract news and today's NOAA and NWS firings, remember: the privatization is the point (or one of the main ones). This is about enriching the few, not creating efficiency for the many.

Here is the reality of Donald Trump and Elon Musk's layoffs: immediate reductions to national park visitor services. We cannot serve people without people. Nobody wants an AI robot giving a cave tour.

We as a country will save nothing. Federal employee salaries make up just 4% of the budget—roughly $271 billion. So even if every federal worker were fired, that’s the maximum you’d save. Meanwhile, the U.S. House GOP has released a budget that raises the debt limit by $4 trillion.

This administration has convinced half the country that the real problem isn’t the billionaires who evade taxes and collect government handouts, but the working class who pay taxes and get nothing in return.

Elon Musk’s staffers have gained unauthorized access to sensitive government employee data by installing a server at the OPM. They now have access to USAJOBS, the federal hiring portal where applicants submit personal details such as Social Security numbers, home addresses, and employment histories.

This also applies to other agencies as well. For example, U.S. fish and Wildlife is also not able to advocate for budget. But partners, the public, NGOs etc. can petition congress.
People at the NSF aren’t allowed to advocate for their budget or really push back on this freeze. But y’all should know this pause/freeze/delay/cancellation will hurt basic science research throughout the United States including nearly every university. We should all be deeply concerned. #savetheNSF
