Even if every new AI data center were powered by renewables, this immense increase in global power consumption is deeply concerning:
It is not an accident that a technology that replaces human thinking and creativity is simultaneously dependent on intensifying the unlivilability of earth.
A few important points here

- Generative AI supercharged data centre growth: lobbyist and substacker lines pretending like this is just streaming are false

- Even when you consider much of the projected growth is speculative, the *likely* projects are still MASSIVE

Ouch! What it feels like to shoot ourselves in the foot!
Whoa. 96%!!!
By 2040, ~40% of the images from Hubble Space Telescope, and more than 96% from new and future space telescopes like SPHEREx, ARRAKIHS, and Xuntian will be contaminated by internet satellite constellations.

Finally! Somebody doing some something about AI & Bitcoin energy consumption.
Awesome. British Columbia optimises our public clean-green renewable energy uses by restricting it from being gobbled up by foreign AI and data centres and permanently bans cryptomining (Bill 31, Energy Statutes Amendment Act).

Queue the outrage...

Darn AI must be thinking: ok we got wind energy, oh and then there's wind harps... no big difference, let's combine them.
Have you been on any Meta platforms lately? For people like me with a pattern of interest in sustainability it is 99% A.I. slop with crap like this.

No. Greece is not installing wind harp powered street lights.

Solar + BATTERIES = Game Changer!
Grid scale batteries are changing our electricity system. Excellent new visual story on batteries in FT today shows just how far this technology has evolved.

Fasten your seatbelts, this is just the beginning.

Tofu’s close relative can be sliced, smoked, marinated, deep fried, turned into mince, burgers, or ‘bacon’ … and it’s high in protein and other vital nutrients. Here’s how to make the most of it

Celebrating the power of the sun. Never gets old.
The power of clean energy hit the news across the U.S. last weekend as 500 events kicked off to celebrate Sun Day 🗞☀️ Thank you to local organizers for sharing the story of Sun Day and showing the HUGE support for solar and wind that continues to grow despite the challenges we face.
