In the relatively few RPG rulebooks I've read, there's usually a section about "What is a TTRPG?", there's a section on how how to create a character, possibly one on how to build an encounter, etc. Sometimes there's an introductory adventure thrown in.
Folks are naturally going to conclude that this is a '70s problem, but when Jason first started running D&D for his kids earlier this year, I got a whole bunch of messages from him that were all variations of....
"WHERE DOES IT EXPLAIN HOW TO PLAY?!"
"WHERE DOES IT EXPLAIN HOW TO PLAY?!"
Like, we played Thunder Road, had fun. Talked to Jason who said "Did you cross the finish line? Then I think you're playing it wrong."
And, it turns out...WE WERE! We were literally not using some of the rules!
