imo infra setup/recon becoming lower difficulty also increases their ability to complicate tracking and correlation so there's downstream impacts to the defensive side. and that's before you start into the proliferation side of it. agree it's not a game changer but kind of a cheap little opsec win

not my fight but this seems like moving goalposts? the thing they said it couldn't do now it can and there's "proof" (as far as you trust the source) of it being used by state affiliated actors, which in theory means someone sees value in it. what _would_ feel innovative?

baby steps. it's been 5 months and this is just the publicly observable case(s)

Couldn’t agree more. The only meaningful use of GenAI I’ve seen in malicious cyber activity from state-nexus or eCrime is in persona construction. The idea that AI is somehow going to create god-tier malware (or some similar huge tradecraft innovation) is entirely detached from operational reality.
I love Wired in many ways but this is nonsense, ransomware groups do just fine with phishing, stolen credentials and known vulnerabilities that haven’t been patched. This notion that attackers are going to seriously take up using GenAI just isn’t evidenced anywhere I’ve seen.

.cn actors in particular have long been all about quantity over quality in aggregate (exceptions always notwithstanding)

The 2nd part of this is correct but the 1st part is why these actors are absolutely using this to build garbage-tier+ tooling across many layers of the kill chain

IMO worth adding Counterpart and Le Bureau (seasons 1-2 only) to maybe round out that top 5

Would the most recent Telco op be classed as counterespionage rather than OFCO? The line between "mitigating adversary capabilities" and "penetration of adversary service to mislead or gain info advantage" seems blurry here. Would maybe depend on if they had RO vs RW access?

It's important to note this was going to be "everybody has a limit" from Ronin which is more period-appropriate and the better film, but the Ronin gif availability is disappointing
