While I agree these terms are awful, at least they're transparent. If I understand correctly a company operating under the laws of the PRC is still doing the algorithms, so now both superpowers have your data.

Or you could just not use TikTok and spend some time oudoors.

Looks like a good week for Youtube/Alphabet.
TikTok is now under “US” ownership.

Lots of red flags in the terms of service and privacy policy.

Last post from a valuable thread. While NAFO was an excellent frontline defense in 2022, it needs structural, technical, legislative, and prosecutorial support from democratic governments.

Russia's disinformation isn't going to go away by itself.
The report argues that effective defense requires mapping and disrupting these systems.

Not arguing endlessly with the content they produce.

And now, you know.

There's this one guy I've heard on a couple podcasts who apparently used to work for Fox News, and now tells anyone who will listen that the Ukrainians are the ideal humans with the most amazing society. Skeeves me every time.
We are no more resilient than any other nation. You cannot expect us to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders while being bombed and burying our friends, only to pat us on the back for how well we take the hit.

I'm not sure the dominance of a few giant companies without good options available has been particularly beneficial for the US. For example US made and branded cars really sucked by the late 70s, but got much better after some healthy competition from Japan.
When countries get hooked on US tech, their governments are constrained in reining in tech’s harms while most of the economic benefits accrue to the United States.

It’s time to break out of that trap — but that means challenging the Silicon Valley model, not creating our own digital colonizers.

There's a good reason NASA has done its big launches from the East coast of Florida. Rockets go up and eastward to take advantage of the Earth's rotational velocity, so when things go wrong it's better to have a big honking Ocean there for things to fall into, rather than breaking up over the US.
After the SpaceX rocket failed spectacularly, neither the FAA nor Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sought to revoke or suspend Starship’s license to launch, a move that is permitted when “necessary to protect the public health and safety.”

The FAA predicted Elon Musk’s Starship would cause “minor or minimal” disruption. Then the rockets exploded twice in three months over busy airspace. Flight data reveals how many planes scrambled to p...

Everyone who thinks Venezuela is a distraction from the Epstein files should really take a moment to consider whether it's the other way around (and not necessarily choreographed by the Trump faction).
Less than 1% of the Epstein files have been released.

Trump’s DOJ is still sitting on more than 2 million documents and the legal deadline to release these files was 21 DAYS AGO.

What else are they hiding and who are they protecting?

This is a cover-up.
DOJ says it has released less than 1% of its Epstein files and is still reviewing more than 2 million documents | CNN Politics
