Insatiably curious mental health researcher (@uclpsychiatry.bsky.social) studying severe mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions using causal inference, epidemiology, and geospatial analysis. Funders: ADR UK & UKRI MHP.
I've been much less productive than I would have liked today and I have to admit that brain and body are telling me that it's not going to get much better. :/ Any tips for recharging?

Funders who post things like “XYZ funding application…due TODAY!” on LinkedIn/X… who are these posts for? There’s no way anyone coming across that post for the first time is going to get institutional sign-off on a submission in time, and anyone working on a bid is surely well-aware of the deadline…

I know it must be a tough research job market right now and as someone involved with hiring at the moment, I encourage jobseekers to please be discerning in the jobs for which you apply, use generative AI judiciously and sparingly (if at all), and read the job description carefully and in full.

It’s been a busy few weeks at work and I’m definitely feeling the exhaustion, weariness, and pace catching up to me, my body, and my mind. What are some good ways to recharge that work for you? I feel guilty for focusing on myself and not 100% on work, but I need to look after myself first.
