Valerie Martino at the Mohawk Place in Buffalo, New York on September 28, 2015. She was on tour with Container. Buffalo locals Ay Fast, Night Slaves, and VWLS also were on the bill that night. Val is standing at a table playing an assortment of synths and drum machines. The lighting is from behind and giving everything a weird glow. This was a really good show and strange to think it happened a decade ago.

She was on tour with the Yellow Swans. Their gear is behind her on a table. My memory is a little hazy and I don't recall too much about the show. The attendance was probably on the sparse side since it was on a Sunday night. When the Yellow Swans came back to Buffalo a year later, they said they used a recording from this show on their At All Ends album so that was cool. I hope I'm not making that memory up. At any rate, I'm glad I got to see Grouper. The photo looked kind of odd in color so I grabbed the black color separation and darkened the levels to make it a high contrast BW image.

Outer Space at Soundlab in Buffalo, NY on August 10, 2010. Outer Space is the project of John Elliot from Emeralds. He is playing a couple of synthesizers and wearing a green shirt with light colored pants in the photo. John was on tour with Drainolith, the solo project of Alex Moskos from AIDS Wolf. VWLS and a couple other Buffalo locals opened the show. This would've been a typical warm summer night of experimental music at Soundlab.

Ollies has been running this ad in the flyers lately. I live in a poor area to conduct market research (not a lot of skaters), but I've seen plenty of Madness boards in the wild. That seems to have carried over to Opera.

In 2009, it was her with a microphone, some tapes, and effects pedals. She sat on the floor of the stage. She was on tour with AIDS Wolf. They were touring for their Cities of Glass album at the time. This was one of those really great shows at Soundlab that I was happy to have attended.

The duo of John Olson, saxophone, and Nate Young, synths and vocals, played the now shuttered Mohawk Place in Buffalo, New York on May 28, 2023. Martin Freeman and Lara Buckley were the opening acts. The photos have a reddish tint to them. Wolf Eyes mostly did songs off their new at the time album, Dreams In Splattered Lines. It was a ripper of set and nice to get out of the house to see a live band I have the tapes for. Since the show was in 2023, it was the first show I'd been to since COVID shut everything down in 2020.

Providence, Rhode Island noise rock band Lightning Bolt play the drawing studio at Alfred University in Alfred, New York on May 6, 2005. Bug Sized Mind and Hilkka were the openers. The room is full of folks who are really excited about seeing Lightning Bolt in the middle of upstate New York on a chilly Friday night. The band played a couple songs off of Hypermagic Mountain, which wasn't released until the fall. We took two carloads of people to the show. The guy in the magenta Captain Beefheart shirt just above the drums is Adam Morosky of Timeghost fame. It's hard to believe this was twenty years ago already.

Skateboarding was rained out for Friday and Saturday. I did use a razor blade to scrape all the wax off the portable flat bar that I have. There was so much wax build up it had gotten sticky. You have to remove the wax every so often or else it doesn't slide.
A 6' long blue portable flat bar for skateboarding by King Rails. King Rails is the company of former pro Jeff King. He rode for Invisible and Blockhead. I won the flat bar in a contest from Transworld in 2001. You had to list as many riders for Blockhead as possible to win. I knew a bunch of names. I also watched my copy of the Splendid Eye Torture video and wrote down anybody I didn't have. Transworld said nobody else was even close to the number of skaters I listed.
