The (Labour) chair of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners said the decision had been made "without any consultation" and "risks creating a dangerous accountability vacuum"

"We are deeply disappointed by this decision and the lack of engagement with us," Emily Spurrell said

Robbie Gibb behind the allegations of bias. There is a surprise, NOT. 5th columnist.

Increase in Fuel Duty (for the next 5 years) is already baked into the OBRs forecasts. Not increasing it is not only a tax cut for motorists (mostly better off), but also continues the lies the Tory Chancellors of the last 14 years.

1/4 mile is too big an exclusion area IMO. 150m, as per the abortion protest restriction, would be more appropriate.

Jenrick is taking advantage of the issue. Whilst burning books is wrong, the man should not have been prosecuted for it.
Though I am OK with proposed law banning it within close proximity to religious building (like abortion clinics restrictions)

Problem is the all or nothing extremists, on both sides. One side of the problem is those (some in the UK) that accuse people critical of this current Israeli Govts actions (in both Gaza & West Bank) of being antisemitic. IMO this is what makes some politicians reluctant to speak.

Anti-frackers in Lancashire commissioned a surveyors report on the affect of fracking on house prices. Conclusion was that fracking had negligible impact but all the anti-fracking signs & protests could lower house prices.

you are correct. I got mixed up with the fuel duty escalator which is assumed in OBRs forecasts, but overridden at everybudget.

Though this Parliament can't impose a permanent ban. A future Parliament could repeal the ban. Though it would be a bigger hurdle to repeal primary legislation, so it is a good move.
We need more Primary legislation changes that will curb a future Reform Govt (minority or with slim minority)

Burnham might have to stand as an Independent candidate, as Labour NEC (& possibly local party members) could block his nomination as candidate.

"claiming no benefits" - so for a couple with 2 kids outside London that could be joint income of £56k before UC stops entirely
And well over £60k individual earnings before Child benefit stops
Disability benefits higher - maybe that dodgy knee from political oppressors are reason for asylum claim

Maybe it is simply that interest rates are not rock bottom so savers get a decent (ish) return.

I don't mind the extended ban, provided it is combined with additional punishment. Perhaps jail, but certainly community service and / or curfew.

The problem is OFGEM can't do this alone. Govt needs to make changes too.
- Increase benefits for those with medical needs / devices.
- nationwide tax on 2n'd homes so OFGEM don't have to mess the whole system up to avoid 2n'd homeowners benefiting.
- fund policy levies from general taxation

But the merged rate will still be higher than current income tax rate. So pensioners would be worse off (whether private or state provided) unless they were really poor (on < £12570).
Though I agree it is the right way to go in the long term, even though I am retired. Doing it in 2% steps sensible.
