A great article from a lovely human being. Well worth a read.
Dad Life: Working through anxiety, celebrating LGBTQ history, and school

I like to keep a note of big ideas and memorable moments that come up when I’m with my kids. In Dad Life (a new irregular column) I’ll share some of these from my week in parenting.

To criticise the beliefs of others, including in ways that cause gross offence, does not warrant violence or, in this sad case, murder. Stark reminder of the need to protect freedom of speech and freedom of expression worldwide. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Freedom of expression encompasses the right to express yourself in ways that offend, shock, or disturb. There's no justification for killing someone over the burning of Qurans. Trying to appease fundamentalists by surrendering the right to offend won't end well.

How on earth is this allowed to happen?
We’ve raised concerns about a Church of England plan to install an evangelism worker at a nonreligious community school, with the explicit purpose of converting children.

Schools should prioritise interests of children and families, not the Church.

How on earth is this allowed to happen in 2025?
The new role will enable 'growth in disciples of Christ' by 'growing a new worshipping community' at the school.

Another word for it is: evangelism.

Unacceptable. Alarming that this is occurring in a community school with no religious ethos.

I'm quoted in today's Times on concerns that the concept of 'Islamophobia' has undermined efforts to address child sexual exploitation perpetrated by grooming gangs. I think the term hinders important conversations about a religion with increasing cultural and political significance in the UK.
