There are all these, like, Nintendo Switfch controllers with "sega saturn" themed colorways, and I'm like, "Those look dope. Where do those colors even come from?" and then I look it up, and then, *see above*

this thread began because i got mad when i found out that the all-black Sega Saturn design was only in the US.

Eventually, Sega pivoted from consoles to just making video games, where they continue to fucking OWN because that's perhaps what they should have been doing all along.

It's just an example of how you can understand one arm of a market and just… NOT GET the rest.

I will be the first to lionize Sega for their willingness to be like "Yes! This! Now!" But they are an object lesson in what my dad used to call the 'industry problem'

This is relevant to the future by means of like… obviously the world does not want an "everything app." (I am once again begging the tech world to learn something from the PSP)

But the world also does not want 5 different "something app"s from one company.

I feel like the kids would call this the 'we have mcdonald's at home' meme, but in sega's case, you really did have mcdonald's at home.
It's just that McDonald's couldn't play the version of Ecco the Dolphin with the really GOOD music.

even in the late 90s, it was clear that their ethos was 'don't do it better, do it first.'
But that's how you get a scenario where you have the Genesis and 32X and the SegaCD and the Saturn all competing with Nintendo AND with each other.
