UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

very much hoping @netflix.com doesn't capitulate to right-wing anti-LGBTQ+ pressure. if they were to cave, I will cancel my subscription immediately
1. Led by Elon Musk, the far-right has exploded in a campaign to get Netflix to remove shows with queer and trans characters.

If Netflix capitulates to their demands, an already strained market for LGBTQ+ animators might become even more dire.

Musk's posts have been seen by tens of millions of users, and many conservatives are now attempting to force Netflix into a removal of LGBTQ+ content.

Words of the year for MAGA ideologues and pundits seem to be "foment" and "abet." I swear their speech is a neverending tide if "fomenting" and "abetting."

The journalistic malpractice from formerly respected legacy media outlets is mind-boggling. What do you mean you took Stephen Crowder at his word without verifying any info? What kind of journalism is that?

Transgender people are owed a retraction and apology from @wsj.com. The lie has already become canon to millions and it seems the least they could do.

The Wall Street Journal needs to issue a full retraction and apology to the trans community for this. Nothing less will suffice. They put us all in danger and recklessly put out incorrect information.

I cannot believe this is the same paper I used to daydream about writing for when I was in undergrad for journalism. What a monumental disappointment.
“The New York Times collaborated with a white nationalist eugenicist hacker and agreed to keep his identity a secret to publish a Zohran Mamdani hit piece” is a way bigger story than “18 year old Zohran Mamdani ticked ‘African American’ on his Columbia application because he was a citizen of Uganda”

Democrat Billie Butler has won a special election for the NH House by a 55-45 margin, very close to Harris' 55-44 margin in 2024.

Butler, a trans woman, was the target of vicious anti-trans attacks by Republicans.

I have really good news to announce to everyone.

Because of our reporting and many readers contacting Planned Parenthood of Arizona, the organization will NOT over comply with Trump, and is restarting its trans adult care.

Good work everyone.

No, we HAVE NOT formally negotiated, nor pecked any derrières at the White House. We floated a guano mineral deal but US officials scoffed at the idea of supplanting the surplus of odious excrement in their halls of power.

In fact, we’re drafting a 800% retaliatory tariff despite today’s events.

Zooey is doing WORK in Montana and teaching everyone several lessons:

1) You can stand on your values as a Democrat and not harm trans people.

2) Doing so can actually move hearts and minds in a traditionally conservative state.

3) There is value in having representation in our halls of power.
Two more wins for trans people in Montana!

(1) A bill creating a new "indecent exposure" crime for trans people was amended to remove the anti-trans provision.

(2) A bill allowing detransitoners to sue their doctor was amended to only be valid if the doctors didn't follow medical best practices.

The Trump regime will round you up off the street and arrest you because you spoke your mind.

And federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars who refuse to identify themselves will be the ones to do it.

It's fascism.

Call it what it is.

I am going to try to mostly post good news on this account. The bad news is everywhere. The good news can be harder to find. That is by design. Our victories, however small, are fuel to keep the movement going.

This is my favorite picture of Stonewall.

They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+.

Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them.

I think about it a lot in moments like this.
