To use simple political terms familiar to autocracies: Dems are acting like they are the minority party, when they need to act like an opposition party. @schumer.senate.gov is a minority leader, @aoc.bsky.social (or someone like her) is an opposition leader. Proactive > reactive.

Maybe it’s counterintuitive to elected Dems, but if MAGA base engagement is mostly tribal, then grinding the gears of government is THE most effective way to reduce enthusiasm. “They keep withholding unanimous consent!” isn’t a satisfying answer to “Why is it taking so long to crush the Dems!?”
the answer to "why is Trump's approval still so high, even if it's going down" is pretty simple, imo

his biggest political appeal to his base has always been lib-owning, and right now the libs are the most owned they've been since he entered politics

with everyone else, he's dropping, and fast

In the chamber where Charles Sumner was nearly beaten to death for fighting for abolition — and where MA refused to fill his seat in protest/solidarity — Dem Senators can’t be asked to take a “tough vote” and Schumer earns respect for “taking bullets” for them!? GFY
Yeah half the nos were yeses who were literally too cowardly to oppose Trump or NOT oppose him

"Dems were unified for a 'clean' CR." Who cares? I mean, this is the thinking of someone living in a world that does not exist; maybe never did. This language resonates with exactly zero normal human beings. Maybe being in the Senate for multiple decades, you forget what it's like to be a person.

Cannot fathom how Schumer was the Minority Leader when McCain voted no on Obamacare repeal and learned literally NOTHING from the vote -- not about theatrics, not about principle, not about vote counting, nothing.

For a long time the Dem drag on Trump was that he was “form over substance.” But what they never realized was that for him, Form = Substance. And as the internet came to rule politics, that became true for everyone. So today, Schumer’s weakness in form tells everyone that Dems have no substance.

@chrismurphyct.bsky.social I grew up in CT. I have admired your relentless pursuit of justice after Sandy Hook -- rare moral leadership in this modern world. This is not any kind of leadership. I don't know what happened in the caucus meeting, but this is a time for public action. #splitwithschumer
Schumer tells me Republicans might try to jam Democrats again in September, but thinks Trump will be less popular then and Republican appropriators might be more willing to stand up to him. He said they refused to do so now.

I’m confused — am I supposed to conclude that because resistance was “limited” and “performative,” he’s left with no choice but to vote for any bill that prevents a shutdown, regardless of the content or implication? Wonder what a real act of resistance might be…maybe…shutting down the government?
The weeks of performative “resistance” from those in my party were limited to undignified antics.

Voting to shut the government down will punish millions or risk a recession.

I disagree with many points in the CR, but I will never vote to shut our government down.

Wondering at what level DOGE-acrats will start misappropriating UST funds to buy up BTC — either to support their own personal holdings or because they believe it’s a “great deal.” $70k? $60k? I’m imagining the sloppy ways they’ll cover their tracks despite believing their actions to be legitimate.

Why do politicians wait until election years to run ads? It’s not like there are legally defined campaign windows like (mercifully) in other countries. I’d be running social ads all day, everyday. You can target the affected communities directly while it’s actually happening.

Curious how much of Musk’s net worth (including the holdings of his companies) is tied up in Bitcoin/crypto. As of 12/31/24, Tesla owned 9,720 BTC, which means Tesla has lost $125MM TODAY. I’d bet anything that SpaceX and Twitter own crypto as does Musk individually (and, ofc, all the DOGE bros).
