Based on a recent Lyft ride, in a car where I could see the driver's speed, the new traffic calming on Summer St in Somerville works!
Going down un-calmed streets in Boston, the driver was going 35-40mph in 25 mph zones. The chicanes on Summer kept them mostly to the 20mph limit!
