#OnePlaceStudies Sometimes finding my #BoatFamilies WW1 men looks like this⬇️
There is actually enough here for me to be able to find and name him - Oliver Jones b1893, KIA 24 July 1916. Remembered at Thiepval.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 11 Military. The headstone of my great great uncle Major Ernest Valentine Cherry. Ernest died of a brain tumour in service and was buried at Anfield Cemetery in Liverpool. He served during both World Wars at home in a logistics role. Ernest had no surviving children.

New book! Dr Sadie McMullon's #OnePlaceStudy is Fletton in Northants which has a strong brickmaking industry. She has case studies from 2 other #OnePlaceStudies - Long Buckby Wharf and Rillington @genejean.bsky.social
Very pleased to help Sadie with this fascinating book!

Found an even worse version by moving up the diagram! The names aren't legible in this but they are all boat families 🤣
Fair play to FamilyHistorian, I'm amazed it hasn't just gone 'nope, not doing that'! #OnePlaceWednesday

Excellent book post today! I am going to be combining my crafty skills with my #OnePlaceStudies skills 🤩 I have already completed a piece of cabin crochet, boatman's belt is next. Will work up to the boatwoman's bonnet, my sewing skills are basic at best so that will be a challenge.

#BoatFamilies #OnePlaceStudies Oops. Naughty naughty Alfred & Sarah Ann Garner. Another newspaper report says that Frederick had some suspicions so had sacked Alfred from his boat. Alfred then took Sarah home and...
Sarah & Alfred got their own boat, had 6 children, & had a peaceful life.

Thank you Revd Colley of Stockton for this note. Baby Cooksey is now recorded on my #BoatFamilies tree and will be remembered,

Shouldn't laugh at this really, the fear of cholera was very real even in 1849 when this happened but really, William, your breakfast choice was terrible 😆 (not sure about the surgeon's diagnostic skills either!)

John Thompson my 4GGF. The blue 3 circle icon is for witnesses, and the secondary window shows those names. He is linked to the servants in his household & as a witness at marriage of his daughter. When I work out who lived in his cottages I can add them too. #OnePlaceWednesday

#OnePlaceStudies Have spent the afternoon tidying up placenames and coordinates in Family Historian. This is the map for the #BoatFamilies. A few random outliers but you can clearly see the route of the Grand Junction Canal and its various arms!

Yes it seems so and it's getting more complicated... Hannah was also known by the surname KELLY and died at a different address across town from David. And the probate was first given to her 1st husband & then revoked. ( and is KELLY at that address 1911 - of course not!)

#OnePlaceStudies #Genealogy Got to love getting a Will that makes you go WTF?! Hannah Priscilla Thompson's (wife 2) Will only leaves an insurance policy to Clara Fanny Smith (wife 3) and makes her sole Executrix. Further grants and reswears make David the Executor. I'm confused!

#OnePlaceStudies Good news is that now there are 'only' 5 distinct groups of Roberts #BoatFamilies👍 Bad news is that I've got a lot more Roberts and still missing baptisms for most of them - and death dates but that's proving tricky to be certain. And yes there are 8 different William Roberts!
March 27, 2025 at 2:55 PM
#OnePlaceWednesday #BoatFamilies I'm using the amazing report ability of FamilyHistorian to help with research. These Roberts are currently 6 distinct family groups - I doubt that. I can also see how many baptisms and deaths I'm missing🤦‍♀️

#CanalBoatBlanketCAL is complete! Very enjoyable to work on and lovely and cosy for the cold weather coming this week. Another excellent pattern from Attic24.

Found it. In this case, the Worster family very well off, the Shaw family kind on the sidelines of the Worster family business and gradually working their way up the social scale. All the witnesses are relatives apart from Thos Cross the Clerk. Definitely a society wedding! #GenHour

Would help if I'd actually included the image 🤦‍♀️

Oh yay I've reached the time in the Long Buckby baptism registers that Rev Manning appears. Yes honestly that is his surname and yes all the pages look like this. So my transcription spreadsheet has loads of rows highlighted for me to go back and check names later on.

And this why #BoatFamilies research is messy
Emma is in the tree already, so are 2 of the children separately. Now I have to join them up in one family group & then track the other 7 children to see where they ended up. Fully expecting them to marry into other boat families!

Thank you kindly Curate Edward Carless of Wolstanton! Including the groom's occupation helps to confirm I have the right marriage. If only all the pre-civil records did the same....

#OnePlaceStudies Yes I just hit 500 boatmen and boatwomen in my #BoatFamilies tree!🥳 plus all their assorted children too. Varying levels of completeness for each one, and still so many to come yet. And I've just sorted out the Stevens family, connecting the dots together😀

Now this is a horrible tragic first for my research. And this is only the 12 children that I know about from baptisms, there may be more. Sadly no burials for the children but their names are now remembered.

#OnePlaceStudies New books! Mostly for the #BoatFamilies research but the Nether Heyford one is also for some of my distant family. Huge thank you to @northantsfhs.bsky.social for collating the MI's.
