The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

One car wreck. One wrong lift can bring you into the class you are so willing to bargain away. We all get old, we all get sick, and we all get hurt. Promoting disability rights, at their most cynical point, is selfish advocacy regardless of who you are.

No one is immune from disability. It can happen to anyone at anytime, regardless of how 'young and healthy' you are.

Stop believing you will be the exception, and start engaging in disability justice. It's far easier to fight for better support and treatment while you still have your health.

💯!!!!
I also try to explain to people who are okay with billionaires having tax cuts that their chances of being homeless are 💯 higher than being a billionaire.

Are non-US academics changing any travel plans that involve the USA? E.g. reconsidering non-essential conferences, turning down invites, or is it business as usual? #AcademicSky

Just saw a farmer say, "you don't have to admit you were wrong, you have to admit you were lied to, " and idk that seems like a good framing to call people in

Like how do you fight evangelical Christians / dominionism / Trumpism without other Christians who have alternative visions of the world?

I don’t have to believe in / practice Christianity to ask this.

I’m thinking purely from an organizing perspective, not a religious one.

I really don’t know if there can be a true resistance to this that isn’t aligned with faith / spirituality and the community of organized religion.

I eventually told him that I thought the game was older than I am. we looked it up and I was surprised to learn it’s not! We were then talking about it’s age relative to mine & my partner’s. 7yo proceed to look at me with SUCH PRIDE in his eyes & declared “you guys are both growing up SO FAST!” 1/2

You know how weather forecasts say it's x degrees, but feels like y? Clocks should do the same. It's 6pm but it feels like at least 10pm.

alright you wanna know how to support trans people?

hire them. It's REALLY hard already for visibly trans people to get jobs, even before this shit.

Support places that have trans people working front of house, and make sure owners know that's part of why you're there.

Websites like this are SO HELPFUL. Access them now and make it habit to use such palettes, instead of scrambling to redo things after someone discloses a need! (ppt, canva, all of them should really just build some in!)
Having a color-blind colleague is a good reminder that we need to be more careful when designing figures for scientific publication 🧪

You can honor David Lynch by wearing a mask in public.

He had to begin isolating at home because he has emphysema- a COVID infection would likely be fatal- and no one wears masks anymore.

Millions of others like him (including myself) were left behind when COVID measures were abandoned
